Its running well. Started up on the first try like nothing ever happened. Broke the cam in for 30 minutes(felt like 3 hours), drained the oil after it cooled off and filled it with fresh oil and new filter. Only thing that concerns me a bit is that with 10w-30 oil hot idle oil pressure is 15 psi. Its not under spec, but I had around 30 PSI previous. I'm going to keep an eye on it, perhaps the pump isn't as tight as the previous one. Idle is around 600, and a bit rough (just like the Comp Cam 68-231-4). The valve train is much quieter. I can't really tell a difference between the Comp Cam and this one, but it has also been a while since I have drove it. The hesitation and stalling issue is gone, guess it was from the damaged cam. I'm going to re index the cam sensor because I don't like the direction its pointing, more to the passenger side then straight back.

Now for the bad... that damn knock from the bell housing is still there!!! Two transmissions, 3 torque converters and the engine gone over with a fine tooth comb. The torque converter to flex plate bolts are torqued to spec at 28 ft/lbs. I don't know.

What RPM is your knock occuring? My 4.6 had a strange noise (knock like sound) around 1800-1900 rpm. The machine shop went back thru it and checked all the brg clearances and said everything is in spec. Still don't know where my noise was coming from either.

Its at idle when hot. Its not present when cold. When the engine is rev'd it doesn't appear to get louder or it might just go away. Present in all gears. Replaced the flex plate too. Crank end play is in spec. I'm uploading a video to youtube with the sound.

And I almost forgot about my fiasco with the tranny line... I waited a week for the part to come in at Advance.. it says made in China, so that was bad to begin with. I push it on to the lower radiator quick disconnect and I already know something is wrong as it takes a bit of force to go on. I check it and it seems to be lose. So I remove t and inspect it. First, the retaining ring/teeth separate from the housing. Then I notice that there is a piece of rubbed lose and that both o-rings are moved from where they should be.. so yeah.. its garbage after being installed. I just cut the stock hose shorter for the time being until I can order a new Mopar one... The old stock one went on fine the first try. Screw Dorman.

Yes I have. Its not noticeable except from the bell housing. I put the stethoscope on the block and don't hear the knock. Since the bell housing has rotating parts in it, I can't exactly stick the rod on there, but I can take the rod part off and just use a hose. I don't know.. I even checked the end run out when it was apart and that was good.

I may be way offcourse here, but have you checked your transfer case linkage? When it's worn, it will make a knock in that area...

I just don't know.. I've been on youtube listening to different engine knocks and ticks and mine doesn't match. Another symptom is that it seems like it has to be driven for it to be loud enough to hear it. If I just started it and let it idle up to temp I really can't hear it. I went over it again today and couldn't hear anything from the engine block or the transmission... just in the bell housing.

First of all, I wish my XJ(anyone of the 3) was that clean. Second, don't drink and post...

anywho
Have you removed all the dust shields around the torque converter? my 94 had a rapping that went away when I removed the converter dust shield. Actually, I didn't bother put it back in after some random work, but the noise went away.
