Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
Thanks to Falcon and Oletshot. My 677CP .030 pistons dished to 23cc. Took about a week and half.
Now i need to source the rods and crankshaft.

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
Check the for sale forum on here. I seem to remember in the past week two posts for rods and crank. I have a new 4 wt, but I'm saving that... you can't have it!

So still trying to find crank and rods for the right price. Its a little difficult when your trying to build on a budget.

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
well guys, its been a while since ive been on. So here an update....
I traded a buddy i work with a kenwood cd player for a 82 near complete 258.
i Still have whats left over but thats prolly getting scrapped.
I took the crank and rods with pistons in today to get the machining rolling on that. When i get that done were going to assemble and check out deck clearance then send the block back to get the final decking.
I am still slowly searching for a 4.0 head off a 91-95 as well as an intake manifold. the 88 head i have is extremely warped, dont think its worth reworking that head. The cheaper the better.
Ill have all the misc parts left over that arent used so if someone may need some parts for a stock 258 or 242 i may be able to help.

Why do you need a 91-95 head?

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
because it flows better than the 88-90 renix head. i thought the 91-95 was the ho and the one that most people use?

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
you could find a 91-99 head, 0630 or 7120. They flow almost identical. Some of the 0630s come with teh hole for the temp sensor, most don't but it can be easily drilled and tapped.

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
id prefer the hole already there to make it easier but either way itll do. is it the later 00 and up heads that are claimed to be crack prone? 7120 is the 91-95 that has the temp sensor already drilled right?

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
00+ are crack prone until either 03 or 04.. but no proof on that. Yes, the 91-95 7120 casting has the hold for the temp sender. However i have heard of some 0630 heads have the hole, but i haven't seen one.

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
I'm a little late to this thread, but just a couple thing that i will make a note of.
I don't thing the block has been Bored yet, just a rough hone to see if the scare in #4 would clean up.
This is a GOOD thing! As each piston will get a slightly different size hole to match that piston.
The reason I'm point this out is, when you go to put the piston in the hole to see how much the deck will require to be shaved to get (0)Deck height, that .030" piston won't fit in the bore.
when you gather up all then parts and take it back to the machine shop. they will be able to do all of that for you.
Make sure you remind them you want (0) deck or they may just bore for the piston and see that the deck was already clean up.

Re: Newbie Cheap Cherokee Stroker
The block has already been bored and honed. I know its not completely right to bore the cylinders just by size and not boring to each piston. But im doing a budget build here, plus this shop said he didnt need the piston. Within a week or so i should be getting back the crank and rods with the pistons attached. going to assemble, plastigauge and measure deck clearance. Then the block is going back to the shop to get its final decking.
