Re: More noob questions
I don't think anyone is going to come out and say x.x dcr and lower will work on regular gas. There are just too many variables, and each engine tends to be a little different. Nearly every part adds to the equation of if it will ping or not.

Re: More noob questions
So what are you guys doing for pushrods. Are you reusing the stock ones or buying new ones. And if you aren't using the old ones what brand and length are you guys getting.

Re: More noob questions
So mine is an 89 and has the EGR valve. How are you guys dealing with this?

Re: More noob questions
Are you still going to use the 89's head? I would advise against it... then you dont have to worry about the egr (because you be using the intake and exhaust manifolds for the year head you use). The 89's head flows poorly without a TON of work compared to a later model.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

If your state has a visual emission inspection; lack of a EGR will fail, even though the thing will pass a sniffer without it.Muad'Dib wrote:Are you still going to use the 89's head? Open air cleaners may as well since the firewall says thermostatically controlled air cleaner on 87-90 XJs
When I swap the 94 headed 4.6 into my Renix, I going machine a flat onto the 2000 intake and bolt a dummy EGR valve onto it.
It will then pass a visual (after I drop the OEM airbox in 1 day a year)
YMMV

Re: More noob questions
If i get a newer head and intake what other issues will i run into? I plan on doing a header. I did find a stock exhaust manifold for cheap i may use. I think it was off a '00.

Re: More noob questions
Oh yeah guys on an 89 are the injectors the EV1 or EV6. I'm almost ready to start ordering parts, and I may have found a decent deal on an EV1 set. Once again thanks for all the help guys.

Re: More noob questions
For the most part your going to want to use a header for the same year range as the head that your using for ease of part fitment. So for example if you get a head from a 94, than your going to want to get an exhaust manifold from a 94 also.4wdparakeet wrote:If i get a newer head and intake what other issues will i run into? If your installing all this in a RENIX(87-90), and you switch to a later model head.. than you will need to use these parts from the donor vehicle (that you got the head off of)
Basically everything from the head up. Intake Manifold, TB (Throttle Body), Fuel Rail etc.
Your going to want the TV (Throttle Valve) cable that runs from the TB to the transmission.
Accelerator cable.
You can lengthen the fuel lines to match up with the new fuel rail, or you can use the donor vehicles .. its up to you.
You will use all the sensors from your RENIX.
You will need to adapt the TPS to work with the new TB. I would personally opt not to do this and purchase a TPS adapter from HESCO.. then you dont have to modify one again if you ever need to replace it.
As far as injectors go, you should be able to use any ford 24# injectors for the stroker.. it doesnt matter what year the jeep is.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!

Re: More noob questions
FleaBay special....
Just paid for a set of 8 24# injectors for 65bucks. Don't think it was the steal of a lifetime but a lot cheaper than new. I'm all about the budget.
My build is getting to be more of a low buck build to a mid buck build. I've decided that rather than buying a set of cast pistons and getting them dished, I'm going to bite the bullet and get a set of KB944's. The upside to this is since I'm going to have to use the 242 rods, the $40 dollar crank w/ rods becomes + in the budget. I have a friend getting ready to build a stroker and he has the crank but no rods. I'll sell him the rods I don't use and be in the black for half a sec.
So now the build is looking like this...
258 crank
242 rods
KB944's +.030
Mopar Gaskets and valve springs
Sealed power pushrods
Lunati Voodoo 256/112 cam and lifters
Deck the block to 0
91-94 Head and attached pieces
Some sort of cold air breather
Undecided header
24# Mustang Injectors
And there are probally some surprises that I haven't thought about.
If I remember then numbers right I think it was somewhere around 9.6:1 SCR and 8.37:1 DCR .043 Quench
I feel good about those numbers.
