Internal balance for these. As AMC did most of the designs.

Re: To balance....or not to balance
Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will remember to bring the crank in to work on Sat and see how close AMC got it.John wrote:Internal balance for these. As AMC did most of the designs.

Let us know what you find. For production set up's they were usually pretty close.

Re: To balance....or not to balance
I remembered to bring it to work today and spun it up.
1.34 in-oz out in the back and .69 in-oz out in the front. To correct it the crank will need 14 grams removed from the rear counter weight and 7 grams put back in one of the holes that was drilled at the factory.
Street spec is .50 in-oz and race is .25 on-oz.
12CW crank std/std
Its close enough as long as you don't mind some vibs and don't want to rev it high.

Re: To balance....or not to balance
Thanks Alex, the difference in a race balanced crankshaft and one as close as that one is surprising.

Re: To balance....or not to balance
The good news is that no heavy metal is required to correct this crank, that is where the balance job gets expensive. Since there are no bob weights to setup to check this crank's balance it shouldn't cost you much to have it done.
