One last bump...its time to start ordering parts and before i do i was hoping to get some opinions. I was at the machine shop for about an hour yesterday going over my build, and the machinist suggested i consider something like this:
KB944 .030 pistons, 21.73cc dish
.009 deck height, .041 gasket = .050 quench
SCR 9.5:1; DCR 8.1:1
He believes that i still should be ok running no more than mid range gas on this config. The other possibility is:
Silvolite 2229030-6 .030 over dished 24cc
.009 deck height, .041 gasket = .050 quench
SCR 9.29:1; DCR 7.94:1
I'm using the Lunati cam in both builds.
The extra cost of the KB944s would be almost offset by not having to buy 258 rods and not needing the pistons dished. There are a couple of other decent reasons to go with off the shelf pistons, he mentioned all the same stuff i read in the
KB944 thread. The gasket thickness comes from a
post in SilverXJ's project thread; which is why i revised my quench number to be a little higher.
.
Basically which setup would be better for a daily driver that hopefully runs on 87 or 89 gas? Any suggestions on tweaking either configs welcome.
