I measured both cams 90 degrees from the casting line. The stock cam measured 1.320 dia. and the engle measured 1.260.

I was looking at the belt drive, and wanted to see if i could take both cam designs into account. I do not have an older engine so perhaps somebody could help me out.
I assume the front of the block is the same with either design, and when you install an older cam in a newer block, you just do not use the thrust plate. Correct? If this is true the ddimensionfrom the rear of the #1 cam journal to the front ( the width) on a new cam should be the same ddimensionas the if you measure from the rear of the #1 cam journal to the rear face of the cam gear ( part that touches the block) when it is installed. So the width of an old cam #1 journal - the depth of the pocket of the rrearwhere it sits should equal the width of the new cam journal?

Hope this is not too confusing, bit if somebody could measure, i would like to know.

That is correct, yo just unbolt the thrust plate. I assume the bolt holes for the thrust plate are not in the earlier block.

That should be correct. If I can remember I can compare a later cam to and earlier cam sometime this weekend.

I have a 2001 block, and an going to use an earlier performance cam. This thread has done a good job of documenting the differences between the cams and the gears, but i would think the timing chain covers are different as well. The older ones should have some kind of thrust button.

I looked on Ebay and they have timing covers, but they only show front views or have the casting numbers. Anybody know the casting number on the one i would need?
