pretty sure you need a 4.0 flexplate not sure if they're the same size or if the starter lines up right on the 4.0 block

4.0 and 258 block are identical in all ways except 4.0 has bore differences and zero mechnical fuel pump provision.

also-im using exact same tranny that was behind teh 258-literally same tranny. and its bolted to replacment(same part number) flexplate that it used to be bolted to and same starter.
also the plate between block and trans is required to locate starter nose.
that plate is teh same one that was between 727 and former 4.2

Hahahahah yeah that's a hard lesson. You're using a 727/998 behind a 4.0 block and naturally this means you use the 258's flexplate and starter. Any variation and you get grinding and exploding starters. When you decide to finally jump to an AW4 or an AX-15, change the flexplate and starter to match the stock 4.0 equipment.

yep and I knew that going in so thats been teh setup from day one.

what i want now for OTHER reasons is a chevy adapter to bolt to 4.0 block to run a 700R4 behind the stroker.
LOTS of reasons....dont hate-just help me find one.

or give me reasonable, technical, logical reasons for a change(remember-the only computer in the truck is in my phone....)

Funny how you never hear guys complaining about crap like this with a manual transmission  I like my AX-15, and I really like my T-10 in my Rambler! :rockout:
