Correct a 0630 would also work. You can pick up a Zj head just fine:)

Its well worth the gains..I know it seems like alot of work but do it now honestly! You will be much happier with the updated style head!

Only if it is a 0630 head, but I have also heard that some 0630 heads have had that hole drilled and tapped. Have not seen it myself though.

My 01/96 XJ with the 0630 had the head tapped and a sensor for the dash display. I've seen some 0630s with a cap screw in the drilled boss and other 0630's that are undrilled.

Would a 00' intake manifold work? Would 100 bucks be paying alot?

What year range will I find the right manifold and head?

'99-up intake is the good one.
My local U-pull-it junkyard (Harry's) charges $22 for an intake.
There are 2 on eBay right now at $75 + $20 shipping.
$100 isn't too obscene if you don't mind paying for labor and shipping. You could do better if you could buy local.

My friendly neighborhood U-pull has one but. . .
I have to find it, in THEIR yard, I have to bring my own tools and I have to remove it. And zero guarentee it will work or possibility of refund, must be smokin crack :bs:

and they still want 100 bucks, still a good deal??

It'll work on any 4.0L Jeep as long as it doesn't have a Renix head. I transplanted an '01 XJ manifold onto my stroker 3 years ago and I've been very happy with the outcome (small power gain and better fuel economy). I bought mine from a junkyard for $53 so you should be able to find one for a similar price.

$100 is about the going price. You might be able to find one on a forum or locally cheaper.

Any 7120 head will be a direct swap. The 0630 is also a direct swap except that you'll need to drill and tap an extra port in the t'stat housing for the coolant temp. gauge sending unit.
Either way, I suggest you port the head so you can get the maximum benefit from the head swap.

Ok ladies and gentlemen, there are several things i need made CRYSTAL clear.

I just spent the last 2 hrs pussyfooting around with a local salvage yard owner who didnt hardly speak english (Arab), but gaurnteed me that a 99 intake would NOT bolt onto a 95 7120 head, all based on what his pos computer said, repeat WOULD NOT. And he also gave me a really hard time saying there was ZERO difference between 7120 and 0630 heads.

So after about 1.5hrs of pointless arguing and another 1.5hrs of working in the blazing sun only to determine it was the wrong head i drove away emty handed and a little miffed. Purely my fault, should have asked more questions and done more research. Soo that being said. . .

1. What year heads will swap with what year manifolds???
91 with 99? 98 with 01? Will a 99 head still bolt to my 90 block???

2. Does it matter what vehicle it comes off of, found out today that GRAND cherokees came with the 4.0 all the way up to 01, maybe even newer.

3. What about all the vacuum hoses, sensors, TB, Throttle linkage, injectors, fuel rail, t-stat housing?
Will my renix equipment be PnP?

sorry for such a long post.

I have a RENIX era Jeep (90) and here is what i used:

91-95 BLOCK
91-95 HEAD Casting 7120
99-?? Intake Manifold

For a RENIX era Jeep i recommend going with any of the following for ease of assembly:

87-95 BLOCK
91-95 7120 HEAD
99-?? Intake Manifold

Be advised that when you step up into the 91+ intake manifold that your cable and fuel arrangement will be different. I purchased the fuel lines from a salvage yard.. but the RENIX ones can easily be adapted. I also purchased 91-95 Throttle cable and TV cable (i have AW4 automatic). In addition to that, you will need a TPS adapter to mate the RENIX TPS with the latter year Throttle Body (You will re-use all RENIX sensors).

Check my build thread if you need more information.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!
