Haven't actually been able to check spark (hard to do alone). Hopefully when the wife gets home I'll check for spark and let y'all know. I really appreciate the help so far.
I gotta ask. Were you gonna have her hold the plug wire or turn the key?

Same thing I thought last night. Could have been fun.

I need to try it again, but a brand new MSD quit on me 1/2 way around the block after I replaced the stripped stock-style timing set(Sealed Power/Federal Mogul) with the Rollmaster.

I also have had an Accel fail in less than a year. Stock coil it is.

So...ran for 4 days...this morning, again nothing. Same issue. Cranks, but won't fire. Is there anything that could be causing these coils to be crapping themselves?

Was this an OEM coil this morning?
I've only had coil lifespan issues with NON OEM coils.(MSD and BWD have both been crap, in my experience.)
Every OEM coil I've used (4 XJs so far) has gone 200K+ miles before failure.
The one on my 94 XJ has 305K miles on it.
I tried an MSD coil and it lasted 2 weeks, put the OEM one back on and have had no issues since.

Yep...OEM from NAPA bought new on Monday. Think I'm gonna re-run new grounds when I put a new coil. Maybe that will fix it.

So my Jeep died on me last night. Tried my buddy's CKP and still no fire. Tested the 3yo BWD coil: primaries measured .8ohms and the primary-secondary tested 9.6Kohms(fsm says spec range is 11.2-15.2K). Went to AdvanceAuto and bought the only coil they had in stock: BWD. What did it measure? 1 ohm on the primaries and 9.6Kohm primary-secondary. Installed the coil and she fired right up. Lesson: even if coils measure ok out of circuit, they can be bad once power is applied.

Thanks for the reminder to pillage the pick a part junkyard for a handful of OEM coils.

Good idea--I should do the same at Crazy Ray's and p/u an OEM CKP as well. At least it wasn't the timing chain that went this time around(would've been ~a year since the Rollmaster replaced the stock single Federal Mogul). I'm now a firm believer in the dual-roller billet sets for strokers, esp. manual ones with drivers that like to let off the throttle and let the engine compression brake(JAKE) instead of putting it in N and hitting the brakes.

I read over on Jeep Forum that if you use lower resistance wires that there is a potential for burning up the OEM coil. I am an Aviation Electrician by trade so maybe I am missing something. Maybe someone else out there can enlighten me. The reason I ask is because I am running ACCEL 8mm wires which are measuring about 1000 ohms/foot. Could this be the reason behind my OEM coil failure?

I'm running Magnecor 8.5mms, so maybe that's why I'm on the 3rd or 4th coil.

I usually just read stuff here on the forum, but now feel I can contribute something here.
I'm running Magnecor 8.5mm wires (KV85) with a MSD coil that I installed way back in 2004 or 05. This is on a 95 ZJ. Bought them from Kolak as part of his 4.0 ignition upgrade kit. Never a lick of trouble out of my coil with over 100,000 miles on it. Now, that said, it could be that quality control has slipped since then.

Yeah thos whole wire coil conundrum is starting to irritate me. I am afraid to put the new coil in until I have everything figured out, if that is at all possible. I think I am going to put some OEM style NAPA Lifetimes on it and see what happens. I wish it was something logical like a timing chain or a broke dizzy, instead of stray or misguided electrons somewhere...this is why I always considered myself a better mech than an electrician...trons just don't make sense to me. Good thing I am a FAA A&P Avionics Tech...lol...stupid gasoline engines. Hell if my Jeep had wings I would be able to figure it out...

OK...new wires, new coil...NO FIRE!!!
Now the ECU is throwing 2 codes:
11* No crank reference signal detected during engine cranking.
54* No fuel sync (camshaft signal) detected during engine cranking.
Now what? The dizzy is brand new but could it be bad? Could it be causing my coil issues also? Argh!!! I just want to hear my beast breathe again!!
