What SilverXJ said and disregard the headers heating up for now, pretty normal.

Chris,
I looked at the link that you posted for me and that is the way that I do it and yes I did have to cut the ears off the distributor to get it to line up correctly.

Then we can eliminate the distributor as the problem.
How did you put an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on it?

I put bulk head fittings in the tank put a Airtex rail pump on and a Aero Motive adj FPR in line and returned back to the tank. All 3/8 braided line. Capped off the stock pump and regulator and left in place.

We finally got this thing figured out. The builder didn't put the rite valve springs on it ( still had the stock springs on it). Runs great now.

Glad you ran this aground. Built in mechanical rev limiter. Did they reuse the old springs, what did you install?

Yes they did reuse the stock ones.
I used Comp Cams 926-12 Springs, 744-123 Retainers, 603-1260 Locks

Good info to know, my machine shop advised against installing 5.9 springs and so we just reused my stock ones, for break-in at least.

Very interesting thread. I'm running a Crane 753905 cam with stock valve springs, and it pulls strong up to 4800 rpm's. After that, it seems to make more engine noise than thrust.

Your stock exhaust could be one reason why your engine feels sluggish above 4800rpm. Another could be the stock valve springs causing valve float.
