Rear springs were shot. The original owner (as I learned from his daughter) was a landscaper who hauled dirt loads to customers. Only had 88K miles on the clock, but the loads took it's toll on the rear leafs. New springs & shackles fixed it.

OK, so I signed up for the Strokers... 95 Grand Cherokee, 4.0 Upcountry. Rolling on 30s for now.

Yes, it is nice, but gets trail time. I'm not afraid to get it dirty, and I've slid and scraped across some decent rocks. Upgrades will soon include 31s, 2" Budget boost and rock sliders. I already have aftermarket front lower fixed arms and upper adjustable arms to put on with the boost.

I like the 4.0 most of the time, wish it had more power in the hills when loaded, and wish I could get better mileage all the time. I'm lucky, I currently average just 20.4 MPG.

Nice layout for the forum, great idea.

I also have a 90 XJ 4 door 4.0 that is for my daughter. She has told me that I am only allowed to keep it running, no lift... Her boyfriend has a lifted 93 XJ on 33s.

Slightly older Picture. Bumpers are now painted red with D-rings painted white. Running white steel rims instead of the Canyons. Replaced the 4x4 sticker with a 4.6L stroker decal.

3" Rough country lift
31" Tires
4.6L Stroker
Homeade light bar
Homemade diamond plate rear panels. (gojeep inspired)
Homemade rear bumper

I'll try to find or take a newer picture to replace this with...

Another off-topic question .. but why didnt you stick with the canyons?

Good question...The main reason is I really didnt want mess them up during the winter. Get quite a bit of ice and snow here and would rather take the steel ones ditch jumping. But I do like the more backspacing on the steel wheels, at a glance with the Canyons most folks couldnt tell I was running a bigger tire. I'll probably have the Canyons back on in the Summer and give the steels a nice sandblasting and painting.

Here's an old '87 Wagoneer(downsize/XJ) 4.0 auto(cost,$200) and a '94 Grand Cherokee ($400, impound lot, no title) that my girlfriend and I mud race. On the '87, the front springs are '79 F-150 springs and a 3" block in the back. I'm still collecting parts for my budget stroker.

Cool Mud toys man, I wish my wife had the tiniest bit of interest in my hobby.

BTW I am making this thread a sticky to keep it visible up top.

I feel like the odd one out here. All you guys take your Jeeps offroading, but mine's only 2wd and Ive gotten it stuck too many times to continue down that direction. It wasnt hard terrain either, just wet soft grass. One of these days I will pick up a 4wd and beat that up. For now, Im shooting for sexiest street Jeep. Before anyone flames me just remember it is as good offroad as a Mustang. As it sits now:

Image

Current Mods:
Cone style intake
99 intake manifold
APN header
Electric fan with mech fan pulley delete
3.55 gears from auto (mine is 5spd)
Bullet straight through muffler (Im thinking of fabbing my own 2.5 piping)
Lowered 1 inch in front to match old sagging rear leaves
Addco heavy duty swaybars front and rear
16" KJ wheels (225/75 on now, future will be 255/55)
Upgraded gauges from dummy lights to needle gauges
And a sweet huge dent in the door :x .

As you can tell from my sig, it will be receiving a stroker in the up coming months.

Here's what my stroker will be going into eventually:

Image

Way too much to list, but highlights are: OME/JKS 3" lift, D30 Chromos, Super 88, 4.56 gears, ARBs front and rear, Currie steering, Tnt belly pan, Tom Woods SYE and HD driveshafts. Waiting to install are an ARB bull bar and snorkle.

Oh, and a bit off topic, but here's my '83 Bronc w/425ci stroker (running a pretty crappy 10 sec in the 1/8th on 35" muds):

It would be interesting to see what a SBF like that would do in an XJ

Very cool! The Bronc has 4.56 gears, but they are still too tall (w/35s) for the 1/8th--it has a C6 and I was just hitting third (B&M megashifter) at the finish line (at 70 mph). Sadly, the body is pretty much shot on the truck and I've yet to decide what to do with the mill (and Detroit locked 9"). Perhaps a rat rod of some sort a little more suitable for the strip.

I agree the 2 wheel drives are quick. My moms got the last year of the XJ...I think its 2001 I believe. It's got the 4.0 with auto but DAM! that thing has very good power stock. The rice burners were surprised to see me inching infront of them. :D
