The stock three groove locks are 8* and they will work with the mopar retainers, they are the locks I am using.
So you have the
P5249464 - Springs

and the
P4452032 - Retainers

and you are using those with the stock valves and valve locks?

I just installed one and the valve tip is BELOW the surface of the retainer... that just doesn't seem right to me...
Yes, that is the combo that I am using and the valve stem sits just above the retainers. This is the only pic that I have of them but you can see that the stems are just above the retainers. Not sure why yours is below them? That was with the stock 3 groove locks?

yea... straightedge shows that the valvetips on my '99 head (98 on the casting) are about 0.010" BELOW the retainer.

I'm now on the trail of finding some other valvesprings.... looks liek a beehive spring for a Ford 4.6 has compatible dimensions to the stock jeep retainer... just needs a smaller diameter spring locater.... anyone have any idea how to turn that down?

a machine shop can do it for you. Not sure how you would be able to do it without the proper cutter

Alright... so I have a valvespring seat cutter thing that can turn down the iron to 0.725... available... yay!

that means: Stock valves (1 or 3 groove), with STOCK RETAINERS and KEEPERS... with a BEEHIVE valvespring!!!!

and we have something that is greater than stock spring pressures, but nothing to KILL the cam on max lift.

YAY!
