727 swap?
Has anyone swapped a AMC pattern 727 to a 4.0. If so what flex plate did you use?
I am looking at using a one from a 91-95 YJ auto, then drilling the housing for the cps. This is going to a 94 YJ, trying to use YJ starter and keep from using the CPS relocation bracket.

Re: &@& swap?
asked on another forum, should be fine, all they said was mate the flexplate to the starter. different teeth from 258 to 242 starters. but you knew that already

Re: 727 swap?
Doing the same swap in my TJ. Used a notched balancer/sensor kit from Advance Adapters so i wouldnt have to play games in the bellhousing with a drill.

Re: 727 swap?
I'm performing this swap. I just discovered today that the bolt pattern on the flexplate is different then the bolt pattern on the 727 TC.
Is their a 4.0 flexplate that can be used to work with the 727 and be neutral balanced?
Thanks

Re: 727 swap?
i would think use the one from the 727, and move the cps to the balancer for the whatever dollars for that thing
youll have to use a different starter too i think, and perhaps a solenoid, depending.

Re: 727 swap?
I don't have a spare flexplate. The one I have is balanced to my 343.
I was hoping to keep this swap simple and find a certain year 4.0 flexplate that will work with my 727 and be able to use the stock CPS.
Thanks

Re: 727 swap?
I droped a 94 4.0 into a 83 cj7 with the 727. I just used the 4.0 flexplate and it bolted right to the converter with no problems. I cut a slot in the bellhousing and made my own cps braket. just adjusted it till it ran good. Hope this helps.

Re: 727 swap?
The flexplate needed to bolt up to a 727 is from 1991-1996. It was used on the 42RE Transmission.

Re: 727 swap?
Having the new flexplate match balanced to the original flexplate. I don't wanna take any chances since im not 100% sure.

Re: 727 swap?
Why would you have it match balanced to the old flex plate? Why not just balance the flex plate on its own w/o matching it? The engine is internally balanced so you want the external components neutral balanced as much as possible.
