New Stroker New Noise

Post by soomuchpie »

Howdy!

I wanted a sanity check on this clatter, tick, whatver flavor of noise descriptor you prefer... I don't think it was present in the first couple hundred miles but I have about 500+ miles on it now and it's really standing out to me. Any educated guesses or strong opinions welcome Video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osOjNz ... e=youtu.be

The facts...

1. It doesn't make noise until the engine is at temp. So no noise on startup and can let it idle and rev it up cold will not get the noise. Noise is present until engine cooled off completely and start cold again.
2. Noise does follow RPMS but it seems a little offset from them, hard to explain, like they are a little delayed. Doesn't really come across in the vid.
3. Broke in the cam with Lucas break in oil and now I'm running 10w30 rotella T6 feel free to roast me
4. Just changed the oil at ~500 miles and nothing notable in the oil or filter metal wise
5. Put the stethoscope everywhere and really the only place I can really hear it is on the lip of the bell housing.
6. Flex plate bolts are TIGHT
7. Noise is present with load, no load doesn't seem to matter. Once i get above 2k rpms the noise is drowned out but I think it's still there.
8. I smoke tested the exhaust system (when cold) and didn't see any leaks.

I don't hear anything untoward in the video. If you've upgraded the camshaft and added stiffer valve springs, a little valve train noise would be normal.
