Fan clutch and blade options for 4.6L stroker in CJ7

Post by uber_franz »

Hi all,

First time posting here... I recently purchased a used Golen stroker and I am in the process of installing into a CJ7.

As the subject implies, I'm looking for the best option for a mechanical fan blade & clutch that will fit in the CJ fan shroud. I understand they need to be 'reverse rotation' since the water pump is driven by the backside of the serpentine belt.

I was thinking I would order something for the YJ or TJ with the 4.0, but looks like a WJ may also be an option? The WJ clutches I see include an 'Extreme Duty' clutch, but it appears to be deeper, so may eat into clearance with the radiator?

Appreciate any tips.

Cheers!

I see this is a bit old a post so I am sure you sorted it out but i would just forget about using the 4.2L CJ water pump and just run the newer 4.0L water pump and you will not have any issue with the appropriate clutch fans rotation nut i have long ditched the mechanical fan for an electric fan and will never go back to a mechanical fan on any of my many Jeeps...

Ditto on the electric fans. During my build I also noticed there are different water pumps for 4.0s. They all spin the same direction however some have a more "shallow" mounting face which allows better room between the engine and radiator. I'm using a 97 xj water pump, but originally I think I had a 93 xj pump and the pulley had more of a raised portion in the middle where the fan would mount
