Im looking to do a 4.7 stroker in my 2004 Rubicon TJ w/42RLE auto trans. I have heard many 4.0 donor blocks wont bolt up or have figment issues. What donor Engine blocks will fit and how do I tell what they are if they are out of the vehicle? Does anyone know? Casting numbers and or date codes? Where do I find them.
Thanks in advance because I have searched al over and cannot find any interchange info for the late TJ 4.o's.
Im not tearing down the old engine its only got 47 K on it and I'm saving it for my other TJ.

Re: TJ BLOCK Interchange
I'm using a 97 block in my 2005 LJ...... if you contact Brown Dog he will make you a set of motor mounts that will allow for your fit. when my engine finally goes in thats what i'll be doing.
Injection is nice but I'd rather be blown..... 4.6L, Eaton M112, Edelbrock Head, 31cc Dish Pistons, 1.7 Harland Sharp...

Re: TJ BLOCK Interchange
If you want a no-hassle bolt in block, you need one from a 2000+ TJ or a 99+ WJ. I believe a 2000+ XJ block will also work but the accy drive layout for XJ is not the same and a few people have suggested that engine block is not the same... Hopefully someone can chime in...

Re: TJ BLOCK Interchange
The 1999-04 TJ and WJ use the same block. The TJ/LJ continued to use this block up to 2006.1stDeuce wrote: ↑April 25th, 2023, 8:45 am If you want a no-hassle bolt in block, you need one from a 2000+ TJ or a 99+ WJ. The XJ (91-01), YJ (91-95), ZJ (91-98), and TJ (97-98, there was technically was no 96 TJ) blocks interchange.
The big difference between the model/years was the accessory mounting bosses on the block.
There are subtle differences on the 96 -01 XJ, and 97-98 TJ and ZJ blocks. These changes, depending on the year, were the change to the thrust plate cam in 99 (for all block types), and the "NVH" designation with the beefed up block and the main cap girdle on all 96 and later blocks.
