Intake Manifold Testing
Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!!!
I saw this video the other day, and I thought I'd post a link since it's not here already. It took me a while to wrap my head around the results, but it's about 30yrs of much needed, missing information packed into one video, so it took a while lol. It's great that someone is creating this content/information because it will allow the custom engine builder to better make the right choices that best suit their goals, Great Vid!

Yeah, that was an excellent video. I recall there was another video where they compared cylinder heads on Newcomer Racing's 4.6L stroker dyno mule.

Yes, those are good as well. The only issue in "dyno flogs" like this, is when so many different combinations are used, the parameters are not ideally optimized for each test condition. Case in point was the short block for the cylinder head tests had the same compression ratio for every head. I think the Edelbrock head would have prevailed, both unported and ported, by at least 10 lb-ft more torque (maybe a little more).
As far as the intakes are concerned: whether you go with the older "straight" runner or the newer "curved" runner the big takeaway here was they both did better ported allowing that bigger throttle body to deliver.
I'm looking forward to future videos on this. I'm surprised that Richard Holdner (West Tech) hasn't "latched" on to the Jeep 4.0 (or stroker). He does a ton of Ford, Dodge, and Chevy (ls) stuff. He also does what he dubs "The Other Guys" which is where the Jeep motor would fit in.

I tried contacting West Tech performance group about a year ago about doing a dyno on my built jeep 4.6 using Russel Pottenger parts including his ported edelbrock head. Never got a reply. I made a comment recently on his website saying he really needs to start doing some 4.0 Jeep turbo testing and he replied that it's coming!
