Stock elderbrock head on stock 4.0
Hi guys thanks in advance for your help.
I have a dead stock 1997 tj. I'm looking to bolt on a later model intake and new headers. I'm also planning on bolting on an elderbrock head.
My question is. Has anyone done a bolt on elder Brock head and dynoed the results ?
I can't find them any where if they have.
Was it worth it. How was the mpg afterwards

I don't think anybody in here has. They bill it as a stock bolt on replacement so it should work just fine, but I don't think even Edelbrock had posted any claimed dyno gains and I'm sure they would if their were. I wouldn't expect much unported on a stock 4.0 other than the weight savings. Just 2¢ from somebody who has never even seen one in person.

I'd expect the gain from an Edelbrock head alone to be about 10-15rwhp. The gain will be greater if you've already added upgrades to the intake and exhaust systems, and adding a performance cam will further increase the hp gain from the head.

Wax,
In my opinion dropping a Edelbrock head on a stock 4.0 short block for performance advantages isn't cost-effective.
I'd choose lower-cost external bolt on upgrades such as your header that would crossover to a potential stroker build in the future.

I will check out that site. I thought the better shaped combustion chamber may help the economy as well as the power. It's very hard to get a stroker crank down to Aussie due to their weight. And I had been considering turbo with an aw4 upgrade on the gearbox.

Ignore some of the misinformation like how no 4.0L had dowels and their choice in a stock timing chain. It's a 4.0L build with a stock eddy head.
They do reach their 242 HP goal (1hp per CI)

It isn't difficult to get 242hp from a 242ci engine. With modern medium performance N/A engines making 1.2hp/ci or better these days, 1.0hp/ci is nothing to write home about but it's still a big improvement over the 0.8hp/ci that the 4.0 came with from the factory.

Is the only thing keeping you from doing the stroker the additional cost of shipping a stroker crank out there, or just finding somebody to go through the hassle of actually getting one to you? I know it would be more expensive but I'm pretty sure it could still get to you via USPS Priority packaged up and under the 70lb limit. How much do they weigh? If the package is less than 70lb, I would guess it wouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks tops. Not THAT much in the grand scheme of things, especially considering you are willing to drop the coin on an Edelbrock head.

A 4cwt 258 crank would weigh about 50lb with packaging, but a 12cwt version would be at about 70lb.

Just over $400.00 utilizing my FedEx commercial account.
Because DHL specializes in international shipments, might be a tad cheaper.
