I need an alternative to TIG welding the pickup to the pump. JB Weld?

Re: Oil pump pickup
People have mig welded them on and brazed them on.

Yeah, I meant MIG instead of TIG.
I'm not sure either (or brazing) are immediately available. Looking for an alternative to welding.

Re: Oil pump pickup
Just got a reply from JB Weld. I sent them a description of the fit and the conditions for use. This was their response:
Hold up the longest?? That's not exactly confidence building. If you are not pressed for time ..use the original JB WELD. It will hold up the longest!
Thank you!

Re: Oil pump pickup
Why do you feel the need to weld the pickup tube to the pump?, I've NEVER welded one on?

Re: Oil pump pickup
Paranoia induced by Silvers burned out cam bearings.
And Melling's video on installing the pump suggests welding it. But I'll probably not bother at this point. Possibly add some gylptal for peace of mind.

Re: Oil pump pickup
Its common practice to weld the pickup to the pump.
There is a loctite that will seep in after the part is assembled. Its green, but I can't recall the name or part number.

Re: Oil pump pickup
The pickup tube should be a shrink fit so all that's required is to apply heat to the hole in the pump body and freeze the pickup tube to make it fit.

Re: Oil pump pickup
A jar of acetone embedded in a cooler of ice:

Adding dry ice to the acetone:

Inserting the oil pickup into the acetone for 25 minutes:

The temp of the acetone should've been well below 0F.
We still had to hammer the pickup into the pump. We did get a collar from McMaster Carr to fit around the pickup so we had something to hammer on. Once it was completely inserted, it wasn't quite aligned right, and it took just a bit of effort to twist it 1/8" to get it lined up properly. I think it's fine, but if this is a potential point of failure, I would prefer a different means of connecting these two.

Re: Oil pump pickup
A lot of paranoia here!?? as I said I've installed a whole hand full of AMC six tubes, a GOZILLION!!! Chivy tubes and probably a ton of other press fit tubes and NEVER welded a single one!, I beat every single one in with my tool (I have two, one for 5/8" and one for 3/4") purchased under the "PIONEER" parts line and a ball peen hammer.
They're made to use with air hammers?, never done it?, didn't feel the need to snap a pump off!??, the 3/4 one needed to be relieved a bit for the tubes used with the GM 4.3ltr aluminum 4x4 pans.

Re: Oil pump pickup
That's great, but they cost around $85. That's a lot to spend on something that I'll probably only use once. Hopefully.
For $5, you can get this:

And bang that sucker with a punch.
