So ive spent the last half hour looking at Dino's write up on the map adjuster and the more i look at it the less i feel like i should own my jeep.
I have an idea of how it goes together.
My questions are.
Where do you pull the 12v from?
where does it wire in at it says five wires but in the picture im only seeing three so i would guess the other to plug into it but where do they come from.
If anyone can help i would appreciate it i am trying to do this on a very tight budget and would rather not pay a bunch for a custom tune or aftermarket stuff. Thanks
12V would come from any 12V switched source I suppose.

yea i saw that but are the left terminal, middle terminal and right terminal the wires from the existing map sensor on the jeep now or somewhere else?
Also if you're looking at the top picture, there is no switch installed.
The switch makes it so you can have the stock 5V from the ECU or the adjusted voltage from the adjuster out (AVR= adjustable Voltage Regulator).

Ok so thats all wiring going to the adjuster. Then on my 2000 cherokee the map on the throttle body is left in place and the wiring from it is cut to splice in the adjuster?

The LM 317 is an integrated circuit adjustable voltage regulator. Here is a datasheet. http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/LM/LM317.pdf
The potentiometer will allow the output to range from 0-12VDC+. You turn the screw end of the pot (potentiometer/variable resistor)
and the voltage changes.

Ok so I'm starting to get a much better feel for this now. The only thing I'm still not so confident on is the wire selection that need to be cut and have the adjuster spliced into.

The 12v does indeed come from a switched source and goes to one leg of the voltage regulator (second photo in my article http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/MAP_adjuster.html ) . That photo only shows the three wires coming from the voltage regulator (12v switched source, adjusted MAP voltage (middle wire), and ground).
Your MAP sensor has a purple/white 5v reference wire going to it. You'll need to cut that about 1" or so from the end. The cut end of the purple/white wire from the wiring harness will need to be extended and joined to one terminal of an SPDT toggle switch. The middle wire from the voltage regulator (adjusted MAP voltage) goes to the opposite terminal of the SPDT toggle switch. You'll then need to extend the cut end of the purple/white wire from the MAP sensor and join it to the middle terminal of the SPDT toggle switch to complete the circuit.
For those of you who have '96+ Jeeps with the MAP sensor mounted to the TB, the principle is the same. Just locate the 5v reference wire (should be the left one of the three) and use the same schematic from my article. You could simplify things by omitting the toggle switch altogether and following the schematic that I've attached below.
