blew piston
I have a 2000 TJ 4.0L with 160K when the #2 piston skirt blew. It put a nice crack in the piston sleeve. It was so nice to be able to drain the oil and Raditor fluid out of the oil pan
What a better time to build a nice stroker motor. Does anyone have a block, casting 327AB or 328AB? Does any place sell a machined block or short block? I have looked and called around (live in Columbus, Oh) for used engine or block. Everyone wants around $1200 for a used engine. Kinda of high for a motor I'm going to take apart and rebuild.

Re: blew piston
dumb question but why not just rebuild that block since it obviously won't be going anywhere under it's own power without being bored out and rebuilt first?

Re: blew piston
It didn't put a crack in the piston "sleeve". The 4.0L isn't sleeved. However, a machine shop may be able to sleeve it to save the block. You would have to talk to one. They might also have a source for rebuildable cores at a reasonable price.

Re: blew piston
just go to advance and get a replacement piston, mine did that trick of cracking three years ago. I went to work pulled all pistons out of my soon to be stroker block found they were all cracked and just bought a stock bore replacemnet for $20. engine still runs ok but with just a slightly irregular idle as the replacement has a slightly different dish and pin height.

Re: blew piston
disregard my last post as I didn't take notice to what the bore looked like
. You should be able to pickup a complete rebuildable block at the local yard reasonably cheap.

Re: blew piston
That broken piston has left a nice crack in the cylinder bore, but a good machine shop should have no problem resleeving that cylinder and salvaging the existing block so you can use it for a stroker build.
Exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mine's engine last year (it was the no.5 piston) and we worked together to get his rebuilt into a 4.6L modified "poor man's" stroker. He's been smiling from ear to ear ever since.

Where are you? I have a bare block sitting in my garage, on a stand, cleaned, oiled, and wrapped in plastic. It´s from a 98, don´t know if it´s useful, but it´s in good shape and ready to go. I´m in MD, south of Baltimore- it´s yours if you want it.

Re: blew piston
Update on the engine, found a used block for $150.00. Just had to get the word out and engine block fixed. Parts were ordered yesterday with the exception of a camshaft. Still trying to decide witch cam to go with. I read somewhere that comp cam does not recommend their cam with fuel injection? So, I was leaning to Mopar Performance P4529228. Will try to follow up with pics if I can get them to upload right.

Re: blew piston
They say that about all of their AMC I6 cams but that's a load of crap. You can use their cam/lifters but DON'T use their valve springs.SpeedL# wrote:I read somewhere that comp cam does not recommend their cam with fuel injection?
