Stroker installed, but having issues.

Post by Cosgray »

Hey guys, long time no speak.

I finally got my 4.7L stroker installed, and I'm having a couple issues and some trouble figuring out what the problem and solution is. Motor starts up, runs, and runs strong, but a couple things worry me.

My distributor, even with a BRAND NEW one, wobbles around, and theres a slight intermittent click or knock type noise. I never noticed the distributor wobbling before in the stock motor, and the noise sounds about right for a jeep inline 6. I cannot move the distributor by hand to make it wobble like it does while running.

Is this cam end play? or something entirely different? what would be my fix?

Did you make sure the cam button/spring was installed before you put the timing cover on it?

The distributor in my 4.0 did that, the oil pump shaft had snapped off one of the shaft ears and it was pushing the distributor around, in turn it destroyed the drive gears on the distributor and camshaft.

Thanks to IH 392, I found that my oil pump had the same issue his had. I didn't even think to look at that. and the clicking, knocking noise I was hearing was my mechanical fan. It was a little loose. On to the next!

Alright. New problems. Seems to be one after the other. Took it for a drive, and I had NO power above 1500 rpm. Code came up for Crankshaft Position Sensor. Replaced that along with my MAP sensor, started her up, and its misfiring/missing. then it was code P1391, loss of signal from CMP/CKP. found out that my wiring that goes to the Hall Effect sensor on the inside of the Distributor was grounding out. Re-did the wiring on that, and all is dandy. Start the jeep, and the "Part Time" 4wd light was flashing at me. So i said "its not in 4wd!" and pulled it into 4 High. Then the engine died. and now I can not get it started to save my life. Now my code is P1389 for my Auto Shut Down relay.

Please help... I can't drive my other vehicle for much longer....

Sounds like a bad ground or bad harness issue.
