Hey guys.
So I threw in that plug.
changed the radiator.
and something is just odd.
Mind you I had this issue prior to my rebuild.

when filling the radiator it just doesn't feel like it takes the right amount of coolant.
maybe two coolant jugs full. i think they are 4qts

Started her up. and I don't see flow..... or at least less than I'm expecting. I had filled the radiator to the top. squeezed the hoses a bit(but theres no way there shouldnt be air to bleed out) then started her up. at this point I was expecting to have to add coolant. but the level didn't go down. in fact. it started coming out the fill cap.
let her warm up to full operating temp. Felt the coolant with my finger. and it was hot. so the water is flowing from block to radiator.
Heater works good.

She runs at 170degrees the whole drive. only peaking to 200 max when sitting at red lights for long periods.
that part is great.
Im running the flowcooler pump.

heres my thinking.

new rad.
new hoses.
block and head were spotless.
so no blockages.

what if the water pump is has the impellers facing the wrong direction. and its killing the flow. ?
I am going to pull the water pump out and check it against stock pics to confirm. I checked the water pump to make sure bearings and stuff felt good. it turns great still.

I have heard to park nose down. remove the temp unit at the back and bleed the system that way. is that what I am supposed to do ?
(even so I think I should see more flow than I am.)
pump is the flowkooler 1747

Pump is flowing the correct direction.
Utterly stumped.
no overheating as of yet,
Going to change the first oil this weekend too * crosses fingers for no metal shavings lol*

I mean shes running better. bought a new tps, should arrive soon.
after a few drives that stutter/misshift. issue is almost gone.

Tps should arrive soon.
Im going to pull the neutral safety switch.
Not entirely sure if it is causing any problems. But I do know sometimes I have to push the gear leaver all the way forward past park to get it to start. and my reverse lights wouldn't come on until you had it in reverse for 30seconds+... now they don't come on at all. so its gotta be dirty.
according to posts online they can cause problems shifting.
Im toying with the idea that maybe a transmission sensor wire may have been pulled tight. so im going to be pulling all the coverings off and checking them all.

Went to the junkyard and for a new steering box. And found an Oem rebuilt one with the printed re-manufacture date as one year ago...
$30 I was a very happy man. Had to share.

Changed the tps today.
Now she is throwing code 24 (TPS)
Im going to give her a day and see what happens...
Might give her a full power cycle. (unplug battery to clear codes)
if its still throwing 24.
then I may put the old one back in to see what it does

I cleaned the Iacv as well. It was really gunked up. I think its going to be a good plan to replace it.

Cleared the codes.
no more CEL.
didn't come back on either.
seems to shift better. or tries to at least.
I need to post a video of it doing it.
I Have the old Crank position sensor. (I changed it a while back for no reason other than to replace it)
Just for testing purposes. I'm going to swap it.
Issue has now became. Hit gas smoothly. shifts perfect.
Hit gas sharply. and sometimes it goes. sometimes it doesn't

at 55+mph. it tries to downshift. then upshift quickly back into whatever gear it is.
Ideas anyone ?

Im gonna put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail soon to confirm any issues there. (perhaps this could be my hunting/low idle issue.)

Still just stumped.
adjusted kickdown cable **LOTS***

Drive her slow (dont put your foot down and let off when its going to shift) No problems at all !!

Hit the gas.
and this happens.... sometimes... Sometimes there's no issue.
Fight fight fight fight. Shift.
its so weird.

Been tinkering with this beast.
Almost got the shifting issue fixed. its either a transmission ground. or pulled tps wire
I bought enough 8ga wire and terminals to make a few nice clean grounds . I'm thinking 3 more for engine, and 3 more for transmission. Since all I keep reading about is grounding issues.
Ive been pulling plugs intermittently. and they are showing a little hot./lean (Im running 91.)
I'm running the ford 24L ford injectors. if I remember correctly.
I feel like these should be enough.
Going to stick a fuel pressure gauge on it and see if I'm loosing pressure there.
I just changed the fuel filter just in case.
Ill get back with findings.

Before the rebuild I was always a touch rich. not by much tho.
I have adjusted the timing since. Its pretty far from where it was. Too far fowards too lean too far backwards too rich ?
I know the cam adjusts the timing -3. so would I be correct to turn the distributor at tdc from the post -3 dregrees ?
Right now, I have the distributor cut open. At tdc I put the rotor at a hair past #1 spark plug post. After some research from other posts... Perhaps I should try turning it counterclockwise to retard the timing 3 degrees ?

So I took the jeep for smog. and It failed nox (which proves my lean thinking)
can get 4.0 and got 4.02 :frustrated: (its on a high flow cat and the car just had a 15min drive on it. Ill pass next time. just have to warm the cat up some more)

Adjusted timing. hunting idle is gone at full operating temp. idles at 700-800 now
YES !!!!!!!

but still having issues on startup. with low idle. as soon as she is hot. its fixed.

It didn't fix it all at first. took it like 20 miles of driving. then just idled perfect Im hoping the rest of the ecu will remap along with the startup

So. Some other things I noticing.
Now I have a good idle.
I can see something causing the hunting idle.
I think The alternator is constantly turning on and off. or pulling more and less load..
Im watching my volts go up and down.
I do have an 8 year old yellowtop in there. Maybe its time to replace that. Ill get a load test done on it soon.
If not maybe the stock alternator is finally going out.
Its probably time to replace both tho.

Just like before.
Lifter tick is still there. I figured since the timing chain was so loose. That It would fix the tick. But I guess not.
I knew I should have replaced those lifters... I checked each one. Each worked great... springs all good and stuff...
So. The question is. Do I throw another cam in there. or keep the one I have ?
sounds like a diesel at idle. as soon as I pick up off the gas. sounds perfect.
Any other things that could cause this ?
its done that since the original rebuild.
I did do some research into what silverxj said. about air in the lifters.
Should I have soaked them in oil before installation ? I filled them with assembly lube and compressed a bit.
