Cherokee 4.6 Stroker (IT LIVES)

Post by scXJStroker »

I haven't posted here before but I have been reading for about a year now. The good news though is today that IT LIVES. Been building a 4.6 for a while now and things finally lined up (I had ignition timing wrong) and the engine cranked right up. Thanks for all the great posts, I don't think I would have finished it if not for this site.

Congrats. What all was wrong with your timing? I might want to check for the same mistake on mine...

I had set the distributor right to the the crank (TDC), but had forgot to lock the cam sensor. Few hints though
Cyl 1 at TDC on compression - pull #1 spark plug and turn until you feel air rushing out, then align the notch at 0 deg on the harmonic balancer
Oil pump slot needs to be pointing at 11 o'clock
Remove rotor and cam sensor plate and Lock cam sensor through hole in the bottom of the distributor near the screw on right to the corresponding hole at the right edge of the cam sensor arch
Point lock down tab at 1 o'clock and install (lock down tab should rotate to align to block)
remove tool used to lock the cam sensor put cam sensor plate back on, put rotor back on and it should be pointing roughly at 5 o'clock
