98 4.6L Stroker build

Started assembling my stroker build here is what I put into it:
258 crank
4.0L rods
Icon pistons 30 over
Decked block
Comp cam 232 with lifters
Head rebuilt with chevy valves and springs
Arp rod bolts
Arp spacers for girdle
Complete balance with new dampner and new flywheel
.043 Head gasket
Double roller timing set
High flow water pump
Clevette bearings main and rods
Glass Blasted timing cover, thermostat and intake
Going to start with stock plugs and check the heat pattern
Check push rods for correct length

Things to still get or bulid:
Bored throttle body probably 63mm or 64
Good motor mounts
msd coil and box
Header or the stock one haven't decided
heat shield built between header and intake manifold
Tuning hopefully done by flyinryan, hard to get ahold of but will get have him do it sooner or later

Nice build. Hey broncocliff are you in Denver by chance? Will you be decking the block any?

Decent build. May I offer practical experience on a couple subjects ?

A stock TB bored to 63 is worthwhile but consider that the TB will be a factory part with plenty of wear. The shaft, seals and bushings wear out over time. Yes you can replace the bushings and seals but good luck with the shaft. I`ve seen the asm. worn enough that the throttle plate would contact the TB bore. Better to pony up and get a new unit. Had great luck with BBK not so good with Jeepers Creepers.

A FACTORY OEM coil will provide solid reliable voltage for your stroker platform. A step to the MSD would be a step backwards.

StinkyFab has some of the better mounts for the block side. Dallas makes them specific to your engine. Frame side the Currie or Mountains will work fine.

BTW I am not a State certified mechanic but a lowly SAE certified engineer. There is a bit of difference in our levels of education and understanding how and why things work. Some tend to look at things with a narrow scope while a competent, educated engine builder looks at the overall package and uses a bit more advanced parameters to achieve final goals.

Nor do we tend to clearance our oil pans with a hammer. :doh:

Jawduste thanks for the for the advice. I was still contemplating whether to get a new throttle body or have it bored, you bring up some good points. Still trying to figure out what size throttle body to go with.
I will look into those guys motor mounts.

I just thought you might be in Denver because of your name. The 63mm is a nice upgrade from 55mm but you could still go to the 65mm off of a V8 WJ for less than the cost of the new one. A man with the username Dott on this site can fab you up an adapter plate so the larger 65mm can be bolted right on to a 99+ intake. All of the sensors are compatible. I think i spent around 200 upgrading to my 65mm TB. But that is still double the cost of having yours bored I guess.
I see no need to defend my argument about rods any further...facts are facts. And my engine runs great!!! Also, FYI Jsaw... I am also an engineer at SEAKR engineering in Centennial Colorado, although I guess I am not as proud of it as you are. If you would like to talk specifics of education you can PM me as I'm sure Broncocliff and others are getting sick of this in their threads. I welcome that conversation but I am willing to bet that it won't happen.

I haven't got it installed yet. Hopefully next weekend. Still trying to decide on throttle body size. I asked flying Ryan and he suggested 68-70 mm. I have read a bunch of topics and most people are running like 62-63 mm. I was going to order the fb throttle body but I don't want it to be to touchy on the throttle. Can that be tuned so it won't be? Any suggestions?

I would go the 68 or 70mm TB and not choke it off with a 62mm. If you don't like the bigger TB you can always sell it or trade it for a 62mm one. But I doubt you will be disappointed.

Everything I've ever *read* says that much more than 63 is just a waste (NA strokers). I've *heard* if you go larger the pedal gets really touchy. The opening will essentially be at WOT for the given engine demand and any further open won't have an effect. Dino did a 65mm but said it's not really necessary for a 4.6 mild stroker.

I read somewhere that the 68mm TB on a stroker is worth +8 lb-ft TQ vs 62mm.
