95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
New Thread for starting from scratch with build pretty much. 1995 ZJ with 210k miles on it and not getting any younger. I'm taking a 95 engine block I purchased from Craig's List for $150 (long block). I have acquired 1 1973 long block for $150 (12lbs. wt. crank I believe). I will be breaking it down this weekend. Also a 1984 long block with some accessories I have broken down. Confirmed 4lbs. counterweight crank. And another 4lbs. counterweight otw from car-part.com.
CRANKSHAFT(S)
Why so many crankshafts? I'm taking these crankshafts to a well known local shop who will add material to the shaft for increasing the stroke (more then the 3.895 existing).
CAMSHAFT
I'm going with a custom grind camshaft from Mike Jones @ Jones Cams in Denver, NC 28037 (704)489-2449 . Mike's a great guy to work with and attentive and maintains contact with his customers regarding there project and detail oriented. (Thank you SilverXJ/Chris)
Off topic but in reference to my old next door neighbor:

Dave McCain & his partner Ed Houtz
Rods, Pistons, and other goodies…?
Rod length: 6.125 stock 4.0L size
Piston: probably .020"-.030" over and looking to do JE asymmetrical but they don't have the Jeep 4.0L forge size yet. (still a somewhat new product line still expanding offerings)
compression goal 7.5:1
meth/water injection (most likely)
T3/T4 tubro (still going through the learning curve here along with the rest of the build)
Pics of the engine(s) to follow.
- If someone needs rods (5.875") the older style cylinder heads or intake manifold even the carb let me know. We can work something out to get them to you. I am using the cranks strictly from the blocks acquired for the project.

A gift to appease the Wifey Godess...
Casting ID
1973 Block
1984 Cracked Block (water jacket) and complete intake/exhaust + Carb
95 Block Stripped Down - still pending a few things before moving forward to machine shop to make sure it's a viable foundation to start from.
The Tight Work Shop… Having to park my jeep outside till I get things parted off and organized.

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
Thanks, first time to the show myself and looking to put 15-20psi to it.
Just worked on pulling the 73 crank out and boy it was like Christmas.
The money shot was seeing those pretty casting digits so neatly impressioned.
One digit off from what this site references:
http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/selection.html
And it's a bit heavier then the 84' and the 95'

Well off to the shop for some work the 73 and the 84 go tomorrow. Adding material to increase the stroke out from the 3.895"
Shooting for 4.000-4.030" range - not looking for much right?...

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
ever open up that christmas present you've been wanting and go outside and play with it only find out … It's not quite all you hoped for….
the beautiful 73 crank being off 1 number 22 instead of a 23… yeah that's not a 3.895" - confirmed a 232 3.8L
However seeing that material will be added anyways. I dropped 2 of the 3 off today with crank guy. We shall see.

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
never mind you said custom...how are you going to get compression so low? i don't se it getting much lower than 8.5:1 with the 3.895 crank and thats pushing it

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
Seriously dished custom forged pistons, and head work. Not sure just how many cc's i'm gonna get from the head just yet. I spoke with Randy over at Race Tec (very helpful gentlemen). He gave me some soft numbers to work with shooting with 70cc on the head and 42cc on the dish. Talking to someone at another piston shop - he mentioned dropped quench into the cylinder (does that sound right?) That was with a 4.06 stroke. I dropped the stroke to 4.030. Looking to use 6.125 rods - however being flexible atm on those and pistons. Depending on what Bob can work and I have yet to drop the block off at the machine shop for work. That will tell me a little more.
If I missing something feel free to chime in. This is my first show.

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
you wont be able to drop your quench into the cylinder with the longer stroke crank im not even sure how long you can go with the stroke...they're some other guys on here that should chime in if you get there attention...how much hp&tq are you looking for? and some of the older blocks you can get up to a 4 inch bore...a 4x4 would be sweet it would bring you up to 301 or so inches

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
if the 4.03 crank,42cc pistons, and 70cc heads is possible without distorting the head or piston too much i bet it would run on race gas without water&meth

Re: 95 ZJ Turbo Boosted Stroker
Well the design will be setup to run on pump gas. And with alternate tune(s) programmed for quick switch to run on higher octane/compression fuel. Shooting for the 7.5:1 SCR with a DCR between 5.5-6:1 (without boost). And the water/meth setup for when running the boost - might do air/air later (tight squeeze for it even on a zj).
