AutoZone - it was regularly 139.99. But they had a 20% discount banner ad on the website and free shipping on orders over $100.

That was a great deal.

Now I still need to know whether I'm using this oil slinger or not.

So, there's no part number in the catalog for the oil slinger. It's pictured and numbered in the schematic, but the part number column is empty. I'm assuming that means that it wasn't used in 2003.

We're starting to move along now. I started this project just days after Christmas.... and the annual safety inspection is due in November. Never thought it would take this long...

Found this black part in the timing cover gasket set.

Image

It fits the bolt pattern on the front of the oil pan under the timing cover. But it also had some "spikes" that looked like little rubber alignment guides. I couldn't figure out how to make it fit, so it's been shelved.

They stopped using the slinger after a certain year. Bean counters and all.

That black part with the timing cover gasket kit... its meant to replace the part of the oil pan gasket if the oil pan gasket is damaged during timing cover removal. Think an older engine.

Progress was made.

I'm pretty sure that's not where that pulley mounts. And I used a form-a-gasket on the camshaft position sensor and now realize that I shouldn't have. That's how you prime the oil pump, right?

LOL.. yeah, you need to pull the cam sensor to prime the engine.

I believe that the pulley does go there on a WJ.

Ha! I just stuck it there because I didn't want to re-bag and label it.

Thanks for the pic though - I'll need that for sure in the near future.

Making progress!

But I ran into one problem - I guess that there are/were studs in the lower corners of the exhaust manifold. Just not sure. But I can't find whatever is supposed to go in there.

Yes, studs. They have a e-torx head. If you dropped it off at the machine shop with them in they usually have to remove them. May want to check there.

Well crap. That was *months* ago. Eh, we'll find a workaround.

Problem #2 - there are some threaded clips on the exhaust manifold to the downpipe connection. I'd love to replace those - one is definitely trashed. But there's no part number in the catalog. Any ideas?

Wait - are the studs pressed in?

Nope, screw in. You could replace them with a bolt.

On the clips a local hardware store may have something that will work. Or get rid of them and use a bolt and nut.
