Need Motor Mount advice for 2.5 - 4.6 stroker swap

Post by Burnsmacdonald »

Hey guys
Need some quick help here.
I am in the middle of a swap of the original 2.5L 4 cyl engine in a 98 TJ, replacing it with a 4.6 stroker engine.
I had assumed that because the 4.0L was an option that year that it would be a straight bolt-in. But now that the 4 cyl is out, it appears that the mounts are in a different location on the frame.

Has anyone run into this before and, if so, what is the easy standard fix?

Everything is at a standstill until I can figure out the best way to resolve this, short of buying a donor TJ and cutting the mounts off it and welding them on mine.

Suggestions/solution?

Thanks

Burns

You need to cut off the 2.5L frame mounts from the frame and weld on the 6Cyl Frame mounts or build them if you do not have the replacement frame mounts for the 6Cyl Engine...

That's as simple as it can get...

I have done this many times for YJ's but Not TJ's but its basically the same procedure...

Good Luck

No one tells you about the motor mounts when they say, 'just pull the 2.5L and replace it with a 4.0L' or 4.6L in your case.

Thanks Guys
Just moved mounts. Need a bit of fab as there is a slight difference in protrusion length from frame. Engine is now in. Doing final hook ups and sending driveshafts out for length mods.
Hope to fire up today (fingers crossed)

Ran right away on start!!
Smooth idle, snappy response. No bad noises.
I am a very happy (and relieved) camper.

Need to install new driveshafts - road test on Saturday - results to follow. :D

Thanks to all for their advice
