Posted this at another place, thought I'd post here:

Been trying to fit a set of valve springs to my 2000 4.0 for a while now. Finally found them.
Comp Cams: Ovate Wire .450” Lift Valve Spring Kit for Jeep 4.0L 1988-06 #983-12.
They will work with factory retainers and actually will be comfy under the valve cover.
Talked to Comp Cams last Fri and was told they will handle up to 0.500" lift even though
the specs say 0.450". All applications must cut down the spring seat step diameter from
.938” to under .830”.

I've been running stock springs with that same came without any issues.

The only problem with the 983 valve spring is that it isn’t a drop in spring. Just making sure you were aware of that.

The 68-232-4 cam can work with a stock valve spring but it’s critical that the stalled spring height isn’t decrease from the factory 1.640 setting. If you do plan on running a stock spring I’d at the very least recommend putting in a new set of Sealed Power VS1456 OEM replacements.

The tech at Comp said to have the head machined as described above. Said it's possible to have seal problems with stock springs.

Any idea on what it's costing these days to get the pockets machined?

Cutting the valve spring pocket is fairly straightforward process. I charge $60.00
