Renix ignition timing

Post by loosenutdan »

So I built a Renix 4.6 stroker for my MJ. Power seems better, but a little disappointing. Got Nick's Renix Engine Monitor (REM II), and found something weird going on with the spark advance. Base timing is at 14* BTDC, and cruising with light load it will advance to around 40*. When I lay into the throttle, the timing goes instantly to 26*. Kind of thinking this is why it seems to be lacking power. Makes no difference if the knock sensor is plugged in or not, although when plugged in it's registering some knock on the REM. Unplugged registers zero. I have no vacuum leaks I can find, and have eliminated all but the necessary vacuum related items. BTW, I have the 99+ intake and HO 62mm throttle body and a banks header (no more EGR). Only vacuum items are FPR, MAP, Brake Booster, ported vacuum CCV deal in the valve cover and the vacuum ball for the a/c controls. Have 16-17" of vacuum at idle. Any ideas?
TIA
