Rocker arm issues / options?

Post by GASnBRASS »

Trying to get my mini-stroker finished and I'm stuck dealing with rocker issues. I got some replacement stamped rockers and they don't line up very well with the valve stems (lots of play and the tip of each rocker is slightly to the left or right of the stem). Ok, I'll just use my original 100K mile rockers, but they don't line up very well either. Is this just the nature of stamped rockers? The bridges, pivots, and rockers look fine, no excessive wear. I've looked at getting shaft paired roller rockers (HS or YT) because they would run true to the valve stems, but I'm unsure of the long term longevity of aluminum rollers. Does anyone have any experience with higher mileage rollers, or know of a stamped rocker that aligns better with the valves?

Engine specs:
4.0 block and rods / 232 crank
mopar 229 cam and lifters
edelbrock aluminum head
valve spring specs are 100lbs seat/270lbs open at .440 lift
9.5:1 comp

You won't have any issues with paired aluminum shaft rockers. The Yella Terras I had on my stroker were still working perfectly after 52k miles when I sold my Jeep. Get the Harland Sharp.

Good to know the YT have lasted a long time for you. Curious why you had good luck with the YT but then suggest the HS?

Also just found that Crower makes stainless steel 3/8" stud mounted roller rockers for the AMC 258, and crane makes a 5/16" to 3/8" screw in adapter stud. Any idea if that would work on a 4.0 head?

Ironically I posed this question of longevity to one of the owners of Harland Sharp less than a month ago when I was placing my monthly stocking order.

He said confidently that we should easley be able to get 50k out of his Harland Sharp Roller Rockers.

The other reason Dino might have suggested the Harland Sharp‘s over the Yella Terras is ease and convenience of servicing them.
Harland Sharp is made in Strongsville Ohio and I’ll be more than happy to send them back for a full service and rebuild if desired.

Easy answer!
I bought the "Yellow Terrors" in 2006 which was long before Harland Sharp started making non-adjustable rockers (CSP-S40196) for the 4.0. You can still get the YT6627's from Quadratec for $530 but the CSP-S40196's are $454 at Summit Racing, representing a saving of $76.

Thanks for the responses. I guess based on price, ease of install, and service/rebuildable the HS non-adj are my best option.
