Stroker passes smog in California

Post by lazyxj »

California emission rules are only surpassed by the EU rules.
I was worried about my 2001 Cherokee's stroker not meeting the specs but it passed the-annual testing, after a bit of work.
The stroker finished off the original twin mini-cats and popped a P0432 CEL, so another used cat was installed and, with that, the ECM's 7 internal checks were completed, allowing it pass.
California requires all the original mission equipment and that includes just about everything on the engine. The 2001 failed the first time because the intake hose, between the throttle body and air box had been switch out for a silicone hose, a no no.
So, for those living here, you need to have the engine looking completely stock, even if things internally have changed.
Talking with the tech afterwards, as long as it looks stock and competes the tail pipe or ECM testing, it passes.
Keep the stock air box and hose and put them on before testing.
