Worth Upgrading Injectors?

Post by SkylinesSuck »

I just bolted one of Russ's P&P heads, port matched intake, a full 3" exhaust, and a bit larger cam in and I'm about to get a tune from Ryan. I'm currently running the blue Mustang Cobra injectors (24#?). I noticed they are single hole. They are also about 12-13 years old just for reference. I'm wondering, since I'm about to get tuned anyways, would it be worth upgrading to either larger injectors, 4 hole versions, or both before it gets tuned?

On my Skyline, changing over from 1000cc 1 hole injectors to 4 hole versions of the same size gave me a much better idle, and were much easier to tune according to the guy doing it. Those were much larger injectors on a much smaller displacement motor though (making much more power though, not that it matters at idle).

This is on a '98 TJ which uses EV1 connectors I believe.

Those would be basically 4 hole versions of what I have now looks like, right? I guess I'm asking what duty cycle am I likely at now and is the change to 4 hole worth it?

For reference and my records, I just checked and the current injectors are Ford f55e-a2d. Are the above mentioned injectors just the 4 hole versions of these (same flow)? Is FiveohMotorsports still a good, reputable place to buy?

Those injectors flow a little more (25.3lb/hr @ 43.5psi) but still close enough for your needs, and they are indeed 4-hole.
Fiveomotorsports are still a reliable vendor.

I just started googling and see those are EV6. I guess I would need adapters? Or just solder on new connectors.

Get a set of adapters. They'll only cost you about 30 bucks.

I'm curious, how about these?

https://www.fiveomotorsport.com/product ... =10454#srp

They are EV1 connectors so no adapters required. I'm already running a bit lean at WOT with my current injectors so I'd like to go a little bigger as opposed to a little smaller if I can. I'm still chasing Ryan for a tune or else I wouldn't worry about it. Are those bigger or smaller than what I have now? They list them at a different psi so I'm not sure.

They're slightly bigger than the ones you already have and should work for you.

Just to complete the thread, I wound up buying and installing the injectors I linked from fiveohmotorsports. I noticed start up is a bit faster and my WOT a/f is bang on 13:1 above 4k rpm. The most noticable difference though is they are much quieter than the old FMS pintile injectors. I had heard the Bosch Gen 3's had a reputation for being very loud, but I have found the opposite to be true. I did buy a DEI heat shield/injector rail/injector heat wrap kit and installed it at the same time, so I'm not sure how much of the nose reduction is due to that, but either way I am pleased. I'll have some 24lb FoMoCo injectors up for sale soon :)
