Another injector question (sorry)

Post by Jeep4victor »

My first post so please bare with me if i screw up.

I need help/advice on what fuel injectors to use on my 4.7 stroker.
    My current setup:
The engine, auto trans and computers came from an 89 XJ.
Engine is 89 Renix 4.7L stroker, currently running ROUGH (idle) with stock injectors. Runs fine at
highway speeds. But when 4 wheel'n, in 4 low, it runs rougher and rougher. By the end of the day it won't hardly run.
But when i get back on pavement it runs great again.

Time to upgrade fuel injectors but when searching internet cannot find definite answer on which ones will work.

Seems like every time I search I come up with a different injector

These are the parameters of my injector needs:
    • 24lb injector to work with 39 lb fuel pressure
Height of injector to fit 89 fuel rail
      Old style EV1 connector
      4 hole pintle
      High impedance (16 ohm)
Anyone have a similar 87-90 stroker? Which injectors are you running?
Ford F5DEB5A ? Are these the right height?

    Thanks, Vic

Since i posted the above, I have been doing lots more research and found another injector thread here (on JeepStrokers) with some great info.
Looks like i am going with these:

What do you think? Any better ideas?

Those injectors will be too small for your application and I suggest you upsize to the Bosch 0280155849 24.5lb/hr @ 43.5psi (same as Ford XF1E-A5B)

    Thanks for the info Cheromaniac.

General fuel injector question; is the electrical connector, EV1 or EV6 polarized? Does it matter which side is ground? The Bosch 0280155849 that you suggest is EV6 connector and my current harness is old style EV1. I am thinking of getting EV6 female connectors from junk yard and soldering them into my current harness. I know i can buy adapters but that introduces more connectors into the harness, whereas soldering will be a more secure connection.

So I have a follow on question because after looking at the tech specs and doing the math it doesn't seem to match up and maybe someone can clarify for me.
94 XJ engine. 4.2 crank 4.0 everything else .30 over 22.5 dish? (its what Russ had recommended) 68 232 4 cam.

I want to avoid a adjustable FPR because the price is outrageous. Doing the math on the site to find the ratios just because I had nothing better to do at work.

    Injector size (lb/hr) = (horsepower x 0.5)/(no.of cylinders x 0.8)
    So 27.08 = (260 x 0.5) / (6 x 0.8)

Am I missing something in the math? Shouldn't most strokers be running 27# injectors?

I asked Russ and he recommended the Accel 24# but I didn't want to bother him with just having him explain how this math works out to me.

A stroker with a stock Renix head is unlikely to make anywhere near 260hp. More like 225hp at the crank so you'll need injectors that'll flow roughly 23.4lb/hr at 39psi. The injectors I suggested earlier will be right on the money, and the Accel 24lb'ers are a good alternative.

I don't have a Renix unless you were replying to OP. I listed my specs above. Those injectors you listed are EV6, is it just one of those things where everyone gets the EV1 to EV6 adapters? I tried searching but couldn't find much on that topic. Everyone seems to be talking about EV6 injectors for 99+.

Ebay Bosch 0280155715 Ifound these which are 24# and are EV1 and not outrageuous in price. This listing isn't flow tested but they are the right number if I am not mistaken.

Unless your HO head is going to be ported, your stroker will put out roughly 230-235hp and you could use the Accel 24lb'ers that are EV1.

I have a renix and you can see my build on this site.

The 24lb injectors are too big for a Renix controlled stroker. With the Ford Motorsport 24lb injector my CO was so high we could not adjust into spec. I have since purchased some 20's 21's and 22's.

When I get the time I will pursue it later and post. It could be a while

I am so confident the 24's are too big that I will sell you my set of slightly used ones (1000 miles or so) with 2 spares.

You need to elaborate which 24's.
The early Ford EV1 24lb'ers are rated at 39psi while the Accels are rated at 43.5psi (22.7lb/hr @ 39psi), and that makes a difference.

I was referring to the FMS injectors I mentioned in my post.
