well...... engine got pulled last Feb because Cyl 1 was washed out. up side is honing the cylinder ended up being 0.003" over bore. currently still waiting on a single piston to get it all back together.
Injection is nice but I'd rather be blown..... 4.6L, Eaton M112, Edelbrock Head, 31cc Dish Pistons, 1.7 Harland Sharp...

Well i'm ditching forced induction all together...... the build has been a nightmare and life has gotten in the way of me being able to chase the project the way i intended to in the beginning.

so here i am with a forced induction cam (Comp 235 with 113LSA), 1.7:1 Harland Sharp rockers and edelbrock head....... lets get some feedback on my thought process here.

I did some digging around and came to the conclusion that my dynamic compression ratio with a static of 11.25:1 is comparable to a 9.35:1 static with 3-4psi boost. That means with the Edelbrock aluminum head I should be able to get away with medium grade fuel. Below are my numbers and if i'm on the right track and i'm safe with a 0.0285" quench i can go with some of Russ's pistonshe has on the shelf.

9.446" Deck Height
3.910" Bore
3.895" SCAT Crank
6.125" SCAT Rods
0.040" cosmetics MLS gasket (3.950" bore)
1.385" Piston CD
Comp 235 cam (IVC 54 ABDC)

Piston is 0.0115" above Deck
Quench 0.0285"

14cc dish - SCR = 11.25:1 DCR 8.99:1
31cc dish - SCR = 9.35:1 DCR (w/ 3psi) 8.89:1
Injection is nice but I'd rather be blown..... 4.6L, Eaton M112, Edelbrock Head, 31cc Dish Pistons, 1.7 Harland Sharp...

Sad to hear this wasnt an easy build. Seems like a few hurdles.

If you want to go back to the FI idea and you lower that CR I can help you out.

its not even a matter of needing help. the money i had set aside for this has gotten burnt up due to economy.

at this point going FI would cost me 2k or more and i just dont have the funds. plus as amazing as the engine would be 400hp would eventually crater the trans, or start snapping axles. With a solid N/A motor i can grandpa drive it anywhere i want on 37's at 75mph.

with that being said boy would i love to have that 400hp. she was supposed to be a monster. :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

Finally got the new pistons..

it has been mentioned to me that the failed piston could have been due to too tight of tolerance between the piston and the cylinder. what is the proper tolerance for forged pistons?

Because of the different alloys in the forgings, clearances will vary.

Included with your Pistons should be a spec sheet with recommendations for minimum clearances’s and the measurement point on the piston.
