Changing the overall length of a valve does not influence camshaft/valve lift, but can have some adverse effect on rocker arm geometry.

In the future rather than grinding .050 off the tip of the valve stem there are some OEM style mild steel pushrods that are pushrods that are around .030 and .050 shorter than stock and cost less than $20 a set.
