I just installed a coil from a 2000 viper and the wires from a 3.3L caravan. Runs like a top. My old rail kept crapping out when it got warm. One of the best and easiest mods ever.

I use Coil Airtex 5C1432. Runs good.

Just cut wires and extend them using solder.

You can mount the coil on the firewall, no wiring extensions required!
I made a z-shaped bracket to mount the coil about 1" from the firewall to clear stuff. It uses existing firewall studs.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

You can use stock XJ plug wires with this?

I mean the plug for the coil rail (from wiring harness) will reach the replacement coil (on firewall) without having to lengthen the wiring harness wires.
I bought a universal spark plug wire set and cut each wire to length. My 2001 never had spark plug wires, no idea if an older XJ set will work.

SilverXJ,

I have been spending extensive amount of time researching this, and want to thank you for your ingenuity on this. One last question before I pull the trigger on this, you have a 2000 XJ and I have a 2000 TJ. The connector from the wire harness to coil for your setup is straight-through, just extended. Then there is the 180 'flip' for some people. Who needs the flip, and who needs the straight-through? Are the XJ and TJ wired same?

Thanks again.

I need help

I have bought and installed viper igntion coil part# uf412 -B2918M
And jegs performance wires 40219 and i did the same as you guys installing 1&6 at the bottom, 2&5 middle and both flipped and non flipped 4&3 at top
The engine started but not smoothly
The problem here there is a lot if vibration that shake the car body with it and i have no clue what is the reason

Could be the wrong coil ? Or wrong wire ? Or bad pcm ?
It Can not be the spark plugs because i reused the coil rail and the engine started without problem

My jeep is 2000 tj 4.0l

I would check by disconnecting spark plugs one by one and finding therefore those that are wrong connected.

As far as I know the 99 WJ is the only one that needs the wires switched.
