I have had this sound forever with this 2nd engine, cant say Im happy about it. It hasnt gotten any worse and Ive put many many miles on this without a change in the sound. This is only heard during idle, I have pulled plugs to see if it subsides, it does not change. torque converter bolts are tight and thread locker was used. The plate was not visibley cracked when I replaced it and installed it onto this motor. I dont know what to check next, i had the pan off 15000 ago looking for broken piston chunks with nothing found, no up down play of rods.

what are your thoughts and what more can I do to understand what this is?

thank you

Hi Matt,

I know we’ve had some correspondence through emails.

What we’re hearing is it from an OEM 4.0 or a recent stroker build?

Hi Russ,

This is supposed to be a rebuilt 4.0L, not by me.

It is why I have been in contact with you, that and rebuilding my 99 into a stroker. What I do know is the head is 7120 (95) the block is from a (92)

hard to tell in a video, have you used a stethoscope to determine what area of the motor it is coming from? Sometimes I use a small metal rod in place of one to see if it is in the top or bottom end, the noisier it is the closer you are to the area it is coming from. Sounds a bit like an exhaust issue to me but it is hard to tell the difference in a video.

yeah but I cant narrow it down. Its a lower noise ,but I can hear it just as well on the bell housing as I can from a motor mount, oil adapter, any big block bolts, oil pan, and from the front to the back to boot.
