Can't remember exactly all the thermodynamics of it but there could be a chance that your extra big double wide radiator isn't cooling as efficiently as a standard size one. Seems funky but bigger isn't always better........sometimes.

Its time to install a wideband and trans temp outlet gauge (if auto). This will give you concrete numbers.

If you have an automatic are you getting TCC lock up? I drill a small 1/8 hole in my thermostat at the 12 oclock position. This is to lessen the lag of the thermostat opening when making large amounts of heat quickly. If you drill a hole in yours and you experience a longer duration of time on the highway before over temp I would suspect the thermostat is not allowing full flow into the radiator.

I get that, but I started with a standard new oem radiator.

It's a manual. I too always drill a small hole in my thermostat. I have tried two thermostats. A regular one and a hi-flow. Also removed thermostat completely and it didn't help.

Still haven't figured it out. Is it possible the computer is causing it to run hot because of a bad oxygen center or too much fuel?

Have tried two. Hi flow Flowkooler in their now.

bnelson wrote: November 19th, 2020, 2:25 pm Sounds silly but have you replaced your radiator hoses? I have seen the inside of a hose tear loose and with normal flow/low RPM they seem to cool fine but with higher RPM and faster water flow the inner lining balloons up and blocks the flow of coolant. Also how old is the radiator? Water scale buildup possibly?
Radiator is new. 2nd one. Tried oem. Now have a thicker double row in there.

What do you think of putting an oil cooler on it?

A wideband will tell you everything you need to know about your mixture now and in the future. What is your radiator cap rated to? Is it new? You should perform a block test to see if you are getting co2 in the coolant.

The only time I've gotten overheating issues was when my radiator cap wouldn't hold any pressure in the system. It kept getting hot and spewing coolant through the overflow, which I believe in turn blew my head gasket in my 4.0l.

If you got a new 2 core champion radiator, they should have a new cap for the system, so I think you could check that one off the list. Probably ought to install a wideband like everyone's telling you to, and stop wasting money by throwing that at other parts.

No C02 in solution. Where can I get a wideband?

I started having an overheating issue on my yj after installing a belly up skid plate. Apparently I blocked of some of hot engine compartment air exit route. Like you, it was fine idling and slow driving but at highway speed it would run around 210+ and floorboards got really hot. I ended up installing hood louvers to let the heat out. Now runs cooler than it ever did and the floorboards are much cooler. As a bonus it's much cooler inside the jeep on trail rides.

Only picture I could find of them installed.
