Fender Compadibility

Post by Muad'Dib »

Does anyone know if fenders from a MJ (Commanche) will fit on a 4 door XJ (Cherokee).

Thanks!

I would like to know for sure... Someone finally found some fenders that were the same color as my Jeep, and i definetly need a new drivers side one, possibly a passengers side. The donor vehicle however is a MJ. Last time i was at the junk yard they looked awefully similar.. but i never actually knew if they would work.

everything on the xjs front end is interchangeable with the mjs.

Jeep designers based its body, styling, and suspension on the Cherokee. - wiki

1987-1996XJ and 1987-1992MJ are identical.

You can also do the 1997-upXJ swap onto an MJ, if you're so inclined.

The reason for the 1986/1987 break is that the front clip was lengthened slightly to accommodate the inline six.
So it appears that the MJ fenders from a 86 WILL NOT fit my 90 because of length issues.

Since December 2006, i hit the deer in November!

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n57/ ... nd%20Deer/

Im still using the blue fenders from factory, but my passenger size is bent outwards a bit (might be able to fix) the drivers side however will have to be replaced (is bent in pretty good at the end where it meets the corner lamp). I had to smack the hell out if it with a hammer so i could get the damn replacement gray header panel on.

I took these right after i got it running again:

http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n57/ ... t%20Fixed/

Needed new header panel, condensor, radiator, electric fan, power steering pump pulley (it exploded :boom: ended up just replacing the pump with one from the junkyard .. a replacement pulley wouldnt go on very well), and a belt. Only a few of the fins for the mechanical fan clutch were broken from grinding into the radiator. I have since removed it and installed a taurus fan. I also now have a nice straight chrome bumper. The two nutsert/pinned tab thingy that extends off of the frame to hold the factory bumper on was bent sideways 90 degrees to the left. Fortunately it bent back just fine and allowed me to install the replacement bumper at a later time. I cant wait till i have enought to get a JCR bumper with the frame tie ins .. ill feel better about that area!

I guess im just anal .. and i wish it still looked like this:

At least the color matched even though the clearcoat was a failure!!! Its all going to get painted in the future no matter what... just time and $$$.

All of them here in my area are dented/ruined.

Plus, as i said im anal... i wouldnt drive around for more then a month with a huge peice of different colored fender on my heep. It would drive me nuts. Fortunately the header panel only has a small strip that has visable paint. It still drives me nuts!

I think its mainly because its my only vehicle / daily driver at the moment.

its a shame most of the fenders out there in your part of oregon are dented. there must be 15 XJs and a few MJs at my local yard. fenders are $29.99. all of them seem to be in good shape. no wrecks. i wonder what shipping from florida to oregon on a fender goes for...
