hey everyone as some of you know I am doing a frame up mild build on a 1980 cj7. The plan/what ive done right now is as follows:
4.6 poor mans stroker
ax15
stock dana 300 (with clocking ring)
ford 8.8 rear
yj springs

The only problem is my front axle width and bolt pattern wont match so ill have to run adapters and I cant go lower than 4.88 gears

sooo... my new evil plan is to get a hp dana 30 out of a yj. In my head this means I wont have to clock my tcase because the axle will be driverside drop tike the transmition, the width and bolt pattern will match my explorer 8.8, and from revalution gear I can get 5.13 gears for the yj axle.

so I'm wondering if I'm missing anything here it seems that if this worked I would be able to find it somewhere online but I cant . so thanks for any input

For what your doing it should work fine.

Look for a later model (1990 plus) as the earlier models have different brake/knuckles which limits your choices. Also the later models have the larger 760 joints.

Since your this far into it getting rid of the CAD would be very worthwhile.

My buddy has a 92 yj that he is doing a 14b/d60 swap on and he said I could have his hp30 front

I ran over to his house and measured and I'm going to have to outboard my front springs to clear the pumpkin as the hp30 is wider than my lp30

and just last night I welded my spring hangers solid arrrg!
