So I have decided to go 2wd with my build. I have a 4wd aw4, and I know to convert it to a 2wd trans I need a tailhousing AND a 2wd output shaft. However this makes the conversion unrealistic. I want to use my 4wd trans without a tcase. Im wondering if I can use a yoke on the aw4 output shaft. and just get a custom length driveshaft to make it all work together.
Basically I want to use the trans I have without switching the output shaft.

Re: AW4 help
Why not run your existing AW4 tranny with existing transfer case and just remove the front driveshaft?

I am aware of the easy, and obvious solutions. I have a strong known good, and low mileage 4wd aw4. In addition to the fact that I believe, (not certain) that the 4wd has a much stronger output shaft. short 23 spline vs long 21 spline.

Re: AW4 help
All 1991+ 4WD AW4 output shafts are 23 spline since they mate to a transfer case.mountaineerjeff wrote:mountaineerjeff wrote:Basically I want to use the trans I have without switching the output shaft.

That does not matter though. The 2WD AW4 mates to a drive shaft which requires 27 splines. All 2WD AW4 transmissions have a 27 spline output shaft for the drive shaft.
