Valve Cover Grommets

Post by Muad'Dib »

Hey guys.. I have the 96+ steel valve cover that i got for my stroker build. I purchased it off of ebay and it was missing a couple of the metal bolt spacer things that go through the valve cover grommets.

I already have a 96+ rubber gasket... but i also noticed that you can buy a VR or Felpro gasket set that included the grommets. Do they also come with the metal inserts??

Can i get the metal inserts and grommets seperately or do i need to order the gasket set??

Thanks very much!

I asked the hubby and he said that he remembers having both the rubber AND metal sleeves.

I recall loosing a metal "sleeve" and getting pissed because it fell down somewhere in the engine.
I do remember maybe having some that came with the kit. We just had the Felpro VC kit.
If we had our kit here I'd look and see if I had extra and mail 'em off if I did

So it sounds like the kit comes with the gasket, the inserts and the grommets correct?

The valve cover gasket typically comes with the rubber bushings. The bushings go in the holes in the valve cover then the steel spacer goes through the rubber bushing. The spacer prevents you from over torquing the bolt (you'd snap the bolt prior to crushing the gasket). You need both. The steel spacer can be had at the dealer or salvage yard.

Called the local Jeep parts counter today and got the following part numbers and descriptions:
Description Part Number
Torque Limiter Sleeve 53020598AB or 53020598AV?
Valve Cover Bolt Grommet 53010424
He actually gave me 53020598AV for the Torque Limiter Sleeve and said they were on backorder, however after searching around it appears he may have just given me the incorrect part number. I went ahead and included it in this post though for future reference just in case the part number changes or something.

I lost my bag of valve cover hardware recently, and the junkyard just gave it to me for free.
Now I can be like all those other awesome people with more than one Jeep in their sig, but now I have to say one of them is sold:(
97 XJ 4.6
90 MJ 4.0 - sold

I want to have as many Jeeps as children. DD, offroader, drag MJ and another one. 4=4
