2001 Cherokee with 107k miles and a broken piston = $1500

KB IC944 pistons: $361 on ebay 11/26/11
2004 0331 'TUPY' head with 46k miles: $150
Scat stroker crank: $412 Summit Racing 11/30/11
Rebuild kit: $460 from Falcon: 12/6/11
- Clevite main and rod bearings, Durabond cam bearings (extra cost over the King bearings in the eBay package)
- Perfect circle moly rings (subsitute for the metric rings in std package)
- Melling oil pump, Cloyes timing set (non roller), Elgin freeze plug set
- Victor gaskets set
- ARP rod bolts and Victor head bolt kit

I'm at $1400in parts. Expect the machine shop bill to be $600-$800, for a total under $2200.
Figure if I can put the whole deal together for under $4000, I made out ok...... a nice 2001 XJ with a fresh 4.6 stroker.

Where and how much for the KB pistons? I can only find KB945 at summit for ~$600 for a set of eight, I'll have to email them asking for six.
@PolloLoco:
You might get more results looking for IC945 (Icon is the division of UEM making that piston, not KB), and you could get a set at http://rpmmachine.com for $408, $513 with rings (KTM)

Do a search on ebay for jeep stroker and you will find some. I bought a set this morning for $369 free shipping. They said they would keep that price until December 3, rings were $29 additional.

If I didn't have to buy a new (remanufactured) head I would have built in budget.
I have a 4.6L STOKER in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler with 4.5" lift on 35" BFG MT and 4.56:1 gears.

I should be in for around 2700 bucks on a completely new, certain extra cost for stuff to have exactly as I wanted. Brand new 4.2L mini, all machine work, dissassembly & assembly done & inicluded as well. Also cleaning up my port work and making it all perfect sinnce I'll mainly be cleaning it up.

Mine went a little higher than I expected because I had to buy a head. I took the old one for a valve job and when they cut it to install a valve seat they caused a leak into the coolant gallery. Still, an ordinary rebuild from a rebuilder would cost more...

You guys paid a lot for machine work! I brought in a core block and a pile of parts and walked out with assembled short block for $500. Bore, align hone, deck, rods resized, everything hot tanked, rotating assembly installed.

Anyway I voted for $2500-$3000 but that includes some extras that are not part of the actual engine build. Like an APN header, Brown Dog Super Engine Bracket Kit, HEI conversion, etc. Also I didn't skimp on much of anything. I have a high volume oil pump, arp head studs, double roller timing set, and a fully built head all going in.

Kinda sucks cuz I thought I was gonna do it under a grand, but my freshly rebuilt parts turned out not to be, and when I realized I would have to pay machine work I decided to do it all right instead of cheap.

finally got my numbers added up and it came out to be 4263 but that was a complete engine from scratch the only thing I reused off my stock one were the tps and iac sensors. that also includes the nitrous system, wideband, tuner and datalog system. this is still not done I planned for a supercharger but I closed on my house sooner than I thought so I will do that next summer, this summer im dropping 1500 on the 2wd conversion and regearing. so basically setting my money on fire but its fun when its done :rockout:

The last post in this is kind of old, but wow, did prices of building strokers change or am I just in the wrong part of the country? I did a ton of research and ended up spending around $5500 for my stroker. Bought a built long block due to time and price wasn't much different that building my own. Parts alone for a complete stroker build would have been nearly $4,000, before machine shop work or assembly.

I am calculating only the long block build...the CJ is either going to get FI, or a Clifford dual Weber setup anyway. The existing motor was running on two cylinders and required a rebuild anyway.
Here is where I stand so far...

79 CJ7 long block for 12wt Crank - 200
96 XJ long block complete w/ injection and harness - 200
Gibson Ceramic Coated Header - 400
