Engine choices

Post by Gmeadus »

I’ve a question and sorry total newbie on the stroker topic so apologize in advance ,

I guess my question is what 2 4.0 litre engines were/are best to marry up to start the stroker build , I know theirs different bore or stroke I think depending on year ,

I can get one serial # 53010341 pretty cheap, and would like to know if that’s a good candidate to start with, and if so what would be a year or block number I should look for that would be good to get the crank from etc ,

What model and year of Jeep do you have?
I believe the block number you mentioned is from a '97-'98 XJ, and you can use any '72-'90 258 crank for a stroker build.

Mines a 2002 TJ, I’d like to find 2 engines to slowly do the build without pulling current engine until it’s time to swap out :-)

It would be better to find a 4.0L engine from an '02-'06 TJ so that the bosses for the engine mount brackets match up. You'd also be able to mount your coils without any hassle, and reuse the factory header.
