New 4.6L build

Hey all, never built an engine before but with the rest of my jeep more or less done mechanically, I decided the engine needed an upgrade. I've been lurking the forums for a while now and I think I have a pretty good idea as far as my recipe, I'd love to get some feedback

Renix intake/fuel system (runs rich, thinking 22lb injectors instead of 24)

60mm throttle body

'97 block bored .030(probably stock deck height, thoughts?)

0630 head (minor port work to be done, basic lapping to match valves)

Ic944-030 pistons (Hastings moly rings)

Scat 6.125 forged rods

Scat 9-4.2l-3895 crank

Comp cams 231 or 232 (I would like to use stock valve springs, mp are so expensive! will either of these cams work?)

Crower cam saver lifters

JP 5629 timing set

High flow oil pump

Clevite bearings all around

Sealed power gasket set

Pretty sure this gets me to a 9.07:1 scr and 7.74 dcr. I would like to run mid grade if possible but not opposed to running premium. I know the quench height is a little high at .0725, I suppose I could always get the deck height down or use a .043 head gasket but I'm definitely trying to save money at the machine shop. I've read that a tight quench is super important for power and I've also read the opposite so I'm not really sure what to think.

Did a little more research, looks like the Crower Baja Beast 44902 cam may be a little more my speed as far as stock springs go.

Also read some have used the 44243 on stock springs successfully and I should see a little better power

Couple thoughts,

Your low static compression ratio and excessive quench will be horsepower/torque killers.

I have a competitively priced piston and a bushed Scat rod combination that will fix this problem without necessarily having to deck the block.

Yeah, the disadvantage of the ICON pistons is that they're only 1.353" tall and that leaves them ~0.027" below the deck at TDC. Couple that with the 21cc dish and the static CR is a modest ~9.2:1.
You could have 0.030" shaved from the block deck but Russ' custom pistons are a better solution. Since they're taller, they'll solve the quench problem without needing to mill the block deck, and the dish volume can be set to produce the desired SCR (I'd say 9.5-9.6 with the cams you mentioned).

Thanks for the help guys, just pulled the head off my block and everything is pretty clean and super flat so I'd probably save some money not getting it decked. I'm leaning toward the crower 44915 cam, looks like it'll get about the max lift the stock springs have to offer. If anyone has experience with this cam I'd love to hear any feedback or suggestions

I think that's a good plan, Probs. I've heard good things about that cam, but no first hand experience.

For a mild Stroker build with a stock spring
Comp has made a custom grind for me based of the very popular 68-232-4 shelf cam.

Duration @ .050 IN. 206 EX. 212
Intake lift is reduced from .460 to .435
Exhaust lift is reduced from .476 to .448
With the lobe separation angle of 113°
