What tranny are you all using behind your stroker. Right now I have a old T176 4 speed manual mated to a NP208.
Picked up a NV3550 5 speed that I was going to mate the NP208 to.
Just recently picked up another 4.0 with a AW4 and np231 I was gonna toss in a CJ for the wife, but that deal fell through.
Now my daughters 03 2.4L is having issues with tranny and engine. I know it has been said by many folks," if ya wanted a 6 cyl jeep go buy one" anyway, I am really thinking about tossing the 4.0 and the nv3550/NP208 in her TJ (if anyone had done that engine swap, please chime in)
So what I am getting at is, if anyone has a AW4 behind their stroker, pros and cons please. My stroker is in a 83 Cherokee, last year for the big ones.
thanks for any input

Most of us who build strokers with the AW4 leave the transmission alone. Its more than capable of handling the power.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!
You're lucky that hundred shot of CAPS LOCK didn't blow the welds on the forum!!

I'm amazed at the amount of abuse that transmission will handle

An auto tranny's biggest enemy is heat, and most of it is generated by the torque converter.

Re: Automatic behind a 4.6?
I have read that the heat and maybe shift points may seem funky. Since this AW4 is a 89, where should I try and find a TCU from? Came off a Ranix controled FI engine, so do I need to do my home work and try and find wire diagrams?
