MOPAR PERF. 4.0 STROKER

Post by RAPTORFAN85 »

I just got the newest issue of petersons 4wheel and in the section were they were talking about the new products they were talking about a dana 60 from mopar perf. and said one small blip about a new 4.0 stroker crate motor straight from mopar performance. Does anyone know anything about this? It would make sense since mopar has all the parts they need (cranks, rods, bearings, blocks) in house. all they would have to do is find someone to make slugs for them. If anyone could make a reliable stroker you would think that they could over people like golen and titan (not bashing just saying it's there engine they should know it in and out)

so, does anyone have any info on this?

p.s. I put this in here cause I did not know were it should go!

thanks

I know I bought a lot of MP parts(Federal Mogul the other) for my build, and they were all quality(Fel-pro tear-down gasket set excepted). I would agree with your thinking that if anyone could build/warranty a stroker right, it would be them.

I would sure like it to be true...................................

All i see in the MPP catalogue is 4.0L parts being discontinued, like all the cams......................

It would be way cool if they offered a stroker, fine tuned and emission it.......................so they could remove the present mini van eng and replace it with a true stump puller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe change the cylinder walls to except a 4.00" bore and a 4.00 stroke, stroker...........and call it a 5.0L
Ya Ya Ya, i Know I'm Dreaming. ...............................O yeah (why I'm still dreaming) a Full Roller Valve Train.............Any body For VVT( Variable Valve Timing.)...............Na, Scratch that! Double over head cam, Duel VVT........

Ok , im back on earth again :?:

DOHC VVT and a flow through head would be nice... mayeb 4 valves/ cylinder... and while we are at dreaming.... direct injection?

WOW!flash and silverxj, you guys really have big dreams. Some dreams come true, but this one would floor me. It seems we had a hard time getting KB to make stroker pistons, but getting MOPAR to make a crate stroker seems unlikely. Especially because they are dropping the ball on the MOPAR Performance stuff for the 4.0L. Even though JEEP no longer uses it for OEM, MP is an aftermarket division of Chrysler and there sure are a lot of 4.0's still out in the aftermarket. MP had the best cams available in the aftermarket (my opinion based mostly on lobe width), and they just stopped making them. If they were going to do a stroker crate motor, I would think it would have one of their cam's in it, in which case they wouldn't have discontinued them. Hopefully, I'm looking at the glass half empty, and you half full guys are right.

That Mopar Performance sticker they put on it can't be cheap. :D Wouldn't this mean that there are going to be new stroker crankshafts produced? Afterall, its not like they are going to go scrounging through junkyards and internet classifieds to build a stroker.

Mopar crate engine program is pretty spotty. It's not like the GM program or even Fords, Mopar basically goes out and gets the lowest bidding performance engine shop to build their crate engines, from mostly OEM parts and then marks the engine up... So a Mopar Stroker would in all probability be a HESCO built stroker with an added grand or two tacked on. HESCO does a lot of R&D for mopar Jeep engines at least that's what I've heard.

Just as an example look at the price of a Mopar crate Hemi. :o

That would also be my guess who would produce them. But if you want a scary thought, China still produces the 4.0 for their Cherokee............................................... and if you already shop at Harbor Freight..........
