Custom CP piston order

Post by lafrad »

I'm weighing the decision of Dished stock 4.0 pistons with 4.2 rods, vs a set of custom forged pistons that sit on top of the 4.0 rods that I have sitting on the work-bench right now.

I'm looking to see if there is interest in a custom "group buy" order of CP pistons. Each set would be customized for your individual build. Comes with premium rings and pins. Can be setup for full floating pin or press-fit. any realistic dish size you want, any realistic compression height, any bore size.

For me, I'm looking at prices:

$20 a piston, $20 a rod, some for new rod bolts/recondition rods, piston machine work, and rings....

vs:

Order a set of CP pistons, maybe get a new set of rod bolts.

I dont' have a firm price on it yet... it will be a little more than the KB pistons, but it will be *exactly* to your order.

Group buy price sets in at 6 orders.... is there that much interest?

You won't buy a better set of pistons than CP's. I just got a set of Diamonds from Hesco. $650
I doubt you will get the CP's for less than $110 a piece.

If you are using 4.0L rods, why not just use the KB944 pistons?

In my opinion its because your in it about as much for the 944's as you would be for a custom set. Especially someone who wants to make sure they are safe with running pump gas. The 944's have a 21.73cc dish. If it were me i think i would dish them more to make them about 25cc's. Depending on the build (using .060 over as an example) it can drop your SCR down below 9.5 instead of up around 9.8.

And if you would have dealt with Diamond directly you could have saved a couple hundred.

Do the Diamonds and KB944's come with new pins and premium rings?

That would be included in the group buy price.

I would still have to deck the block and/or offset grind the crank to get quench where I want it.

The KB944s come with new pins. The kit comes with moly rings (forgot part number off hand, but its like KTM at the end or something).

Okeydoke.

I'm going to scratch this one then. Was trying to find some way to, cost effectively... reuse the 4.0L rods and still get *exactly* what I want for quench and dish size and stuff, but the "cost effective" part isn't there right now....still have to get rods reconditioned, etc...

I'll let this one go for now.
