Dude, that sucks. Was that a 12 wt. crank? Your best bet now will probably be to hit the local junkyards and hopefully find a good standard crank that can be turned .010 under. I have found 2 standard 12 wt. cranks at the local pull-apart. So they are out there.

No, it was a 4 wt. I wanted a 12 wt, but the machine shop found the .01/.01 4wt I decided to get it because it wasn't turned a whole lot. I guess the machine shop didn't get the message that I wanted and to get it NOW.

Maybe try some crankshaft companies like Standard Crankshaft, or Crankshaft Rebuilders(or try a google search). They might have something.

Disregard the last part of my reply. I thought I was sending to someone else. I can't edit it.

Standard Crankshafts do not have any, but they can turn yours for ONLY $224.30... right. Flat Lander Racing would have sold me a .010/.010 for $395.. from what they said "If it has to be 10-10" I would think they would have to have done some welding on it, or give up one of their best ones.

However, the machine shop's crank supplier got a new shipment in and one of them is 10/10. Hopefully this one actually goes to us.

A good crank is getting hard to find.

Don't know yet. I'll be checking in on Saturday with them. As of last they said it was on the way.

They have a crank! Its is what I was originally going to get.. 4wt, 10/10. Not welded at all either. Once again we were unable to find a 12wt crank and it appears finding any decent 258 crank is getting hard. So they have the block bored, and hopefully next week they will start to really tear into it.

However, he is a bit concerned about my chosen quench. First, he said that the .041" uncompressed head gasket will compress to .038", which I hadn't taken into account. Is that correct for a MLS head gasket? Also, he recommended that I leave the piston in the bore .007" instead of the .004" that I requested. His logic is that with the quench pad being only on one side it will cause the piston to rock when at TDC and the gas/air is compressed, then drag on the way down. I may go that route considering that the quench will still be .045" if the gasket compresses to .038". Opinions?

Anyhow, here are some pics. First is the best I could get of the lifter bore groove that we did... hard to hold a flash light, manually focus a camera and then snap the picture. The second is how the block sits now, bored.

Its moving along now. Block is bored and honed, rod bolts installed and rods resized. Went there today and the assembly partially installed to check deck clearance prior to decking. Maybe this Friday I will have a short block.. if not then sometime next week. :rockout:

Found out today that the freeze plug kit is missing two 2" freeze plugs. Brass ones come in on Saturday. Of course its the one thing that I don't check that has to be wrong.

Anyway, everything has been balanced, decked and cam bearings installed. all that is left to do is final assembly, blue printing, freeze plugs. Each piston weighted 623 grams so no material removed from them.

Some pics for your enjoyment:

Yeah, its going to be ready soon. I'm going to paint it at the machine shop.. decided against painting it at my storage unit due to having to cover everything up. I'll most likely paint it after work when the day it is completed and pick it up the following day after work. Then the fun begins.

Looks good, tho!
